My DH has us booked to go to Elko in July on a gambling trip. Got airfare and 3 nights at the hotel for next to nothing.

Just wondering if anyone has ever been and what it's like....

I've been, but it was probably 30 years ago. Hopefully that's why I'm giggling right now. We used to stop there for breakfast on our way to visit relatives. I just remember pancakes and keno. It sounds like it has been built up into a tourist area since I went.

We have ben there on the Casino Express....last time was about 5 years ago..We had a lot of fun...they play different games in the flight..it is their own plane and they are painted liek playing cards...At the time they had 3 a jack, a queen and a king. The flight went by really fast for us....they do not have a counter at the designated airpot and it is first come, first serve as far as seats......while in the air we played a lot of gambling games with money for intsance everyone could put dollars with their name on them in a white pillow case and they would divide them up into groups of 4 or 5 (depending on how muych was collected) and then draw for the amts of cash...I think they did this and variations with 5, 10 and 20 dollards too....the little old ladies (must have been in their 80'S) were drinking their cimplimentary champagne in front of us and were having a good time.

When we arrived, they had us divided by shich hotel we were staying at (they used 3 at the time) and a bus was at the airport to pick us up...they pretty much had tou prechecked in so you just told them your name and they hgave you an envelope with your name on it with the key inside.

As for Elko, there was 3 different Casinos right there that they ask you to stay at...but I know some the the people in our group rented a car or called a bus and went to some of the others int= town and also went sightseeing...

As for Elko itself, it is sort of pretty as we come from forests...it sits in the middle of the Garnet mountains and it very pretty....there was not a lot to do when we were there other than hang around the casinos..

Any more questions, let me know.

::yes:: Me too :rotfl:

We lived in Reno. From what I know...Elko is a small mining town on the very Eastern border of NV. in the middle of BFE. there is aliens and nuclear waste. ;) sorry....didn't mean to make it sound bad.

just plan on spending all your time in the casino. I could be wrong about not much else to do....check it out on the web.

Have fun and good luck !!!

OMG:eek: My roommate from college was from Elko and she would keel over dead if she read this post. She had nothing but disgust for Elko and left as soon as humanly possible. I went back with her once for here younger sisters' first homecoming dance. Let's just say that there are better places in Nevada to gamble which are just as cheap - Reno, Laughlin, Carson City, etc. Elko is exactly 4hours from any major town (i.e. Reno to the West and Salt Lake City to the East) I guess if you are hard core gamblers and only going to be there for 3 days then you might not get bored. Just don't get visions of glitzy casinos or anything.

Have fun!!

If I recall one of Dean Koontz's books (Strangers maybe) was set in Elko, Nevada. That's the only time I've ever heard of it.;)

I checked it out on the internet and I realized there is nothing there but casinos...but total cost was $250 for both DH and I including airfare & hotel for 3 nights. Figured it's a good excuse to leave the kids with grandma & grandpa and get out town!:p

If it was like our package, which it does sound like it, we didn't get in until late one night, you slept, had the whole next 2 days and then left really early the next morning...I don't think it was anything like any of the other gambling tons, but used it as the same thing...to just get away with the 2 of us and leve the kids with gram and gramp...

We are not die hard gamplers, but we enjoyed it to just get away and have some "us" time. As I said, there is a car rental agency right there and some people rented a vehicle and drove up into the mountains...which a lof of people have never seen before.....and depending what else your interests are and how much time it takes, there is an active gold mine about 45 minutes away .. it is even possible to drive to the Utah border and see the great salt flats
