"Lego Kidfest" is coming to our area, and I wondered if anyone had been and could tell me whether they thought it was worth the $$. Tickets are $18 for kids and $20 for adults, so that'd be almost $80 for our family of four. I do have two little Lego lovers in my house, but I'm not sure it's worth $20 a person. --Katie

We attended Lego Fest in Louisville last weekend. It was the first Lego experience for boys ages 2-8. They really enjoyed it. It's organized by themes (Ninjago, Chima, Friends, Hero Factory, etc). There are free play/build areas as well. They really enjoyed it but their favorite part was Chima because each kid received a free one after they participated in the "battle." It was the only area we actually had a wait time and our time slot was at full capacity. So for two kids, the Chima toys alone are $30 total. It's a lot of standing around for parents though :) It was fun but not something we will probably do every year.

We went a couple of years ago when it came to our area. My kids had a fantastic time! Their jaws dropped when they walked into a convention center covered with legos! :)The scale of it is pretty amazing.

There are two sessions each day - morning and afternoon. In betweeen, they recover from the earlier session, so things are pretty well contained and monitored. The staff was pretty great...and the different areas were fun to explore. The line for the lego store was insanely long though, and not well organized.

My kids probably could have easily spent a couple of more hours there.

I think it's definitely a worthwhile venture especially if you have lego-loving kids.

We went a couple of years ago in Chicago and my kids loved it. But, they LOVE Lego. In fact, they are sitting here playing with them right now. They have thousands of bricks and we go to the Lego Discovery Center at least once a year. For us, it was worth it, but I think you need to judge whether your children's interest is worth the money. For $80, you could buy them a pretty cool Lego set instead.

You could probably buy loads of the big tubs of Lego and some bases for that.

We LOVED it....the kids had a ball. We stayed the entire time the let us. The memories were worth it for us.

We went in February and had a blast!!! Wasn't enough time or DD7 and I! DH stayed home with DD3. Totally worth it IMO.

DS9 went in October. He was completely overwhelmed. There were so many people and he hated the lego "mosh pits" or the free build areas. So for him it wasn't worth it. But you know your kids....

I'd love to take my son. He will be 12. Do you think he will be too old? Is there anyway to get discounts? Perhaps some coupons at local McD's or Wendy's? Looks like the nearest one to us is 4 hours away but I'd be willing to make the trip.

OP- to bring down the cost, why don't you just send one parent with the kids?

We went last year and it was worth it for us. There were quite a few freebies and my son absolutely loves Legos. We went to the Friday session in hopes that it would be less crowded, and it was. We made sure we arrived early and that helped us get the more popular things done before it got too crowded.

DH thinks the boys will be bummed if they don't get to keep any Legos at the end of it. For those who have been, can you tell me more about the freebies? Are they a guaranteed thing at each tour stop or are they only for certain stops/toy release dates, etc? Thanks for all the input so far! --Katie

I'm not sure if you get the same thing at each stop. From what I remember, my son got 2 small sets (the ones that come in plastic bags) from games he played, a Ninjago spinner, and a Duplo brick with the Lego KidsFest logo on it. It looks like Chima has replaced Ninjago. Make sure you check around for the freebies. I talked to some people that missed them by not participating in the games.

We also were at the Louisville one last weekend. My son loved it, we probably would have stayed longer if DS hadn't hurt his toe the night before.

He ended up with a Chima set and a small Star Wars set, ones in the package not a box, plus a poster from Ninjago. We did warn our DS that he wouldn't get to keep any Legos, so getting a few little sets and us buying him a set was all a bonus.

We went last year. It was so fun! I'm bummed that it's not coming anywhere near us this year. All 3 of my kids had a blast. There were a bunch of activities, much more than just hanging out in a pile of Legos (though that was fun too!). IIRC my oldest ended up with a little Ninjago set from one of the games, and a poster and a comic. He was pleased.

I don't know about discounts but I think your 12-year-old will have a great time, there were Master Builder classes and bridge-building contests when we went last year, perfect for older Lego lovers.

I took ds11 last year. He loved out but Legos are about all he plays with - he has thousands of them. He was disappointed they weren't close enough to go back this year. Dd9 is not a big Lego fan so she stayed home.

Thank you for this info -- I have never heard Lego kidsfest and my kids are Lego crazy. As luck would have it the event is coming to our area this fall. I am going to surprise the kids!

At the current pricing, I think we may have just one parent go to save $. I see an area on its website where you can sign up for a newsletter; I plan to sign up and see if any coupons/discounts will be offered.
