Has anyone ever been scammed buying tickets on Ebay?? I have someone that retreived my email and I don't know how they got it.

I got a message on the 10th from ebay stating that they were having trouble with members not receiving e-mails from other members. I know I was asking an e-bayer who had tickets questions abouth them and they didn't get the questions until just before the auction ended.

I have seen a couple of decent deals on ebay for hopper passes, but many of them don't have high enough feedback for the purchase to be covered under the ebay protection plan, so I don't think I'd take the chance.

I also have a totally separate yahoo e-mail address that I use only for ebay. That way if I start getting spammed, I just cancel it and open a new one, then update my info on ebay.

Hope everything works out for you.

I have a man that is emailing me wanting to make a deal on Disney tickets. I have no idea how he got my email, other than I have been looking a Disney stuff on Ebay.

I have never been scammed but people have tried. A big warning sign is when a seller wants you to contact them and pay outside of Ebay or Paypal. I have heard of people hijacking a persons good name and trying to get people to send them a money order for an item. Never ever do that. After they get your money they disappear. Always use a service like paypal. Do not trust someone just because they have good feed back. And of course if its too good to be true it probably is. Don't ruin your vacation trying to get a cheap deal.

Remember, there is NO WAY to tell if the tickets you by from ebay are actually valid until you are at the turnstile at Disney!!Who would want to take that chance?

Buying tickets off of E-Bay or anywhere other than an authorized reseller is HIGHLY suspect..

1. You don't know what you're getting til you get to the gate Disney.. that's a bad time to findout that you have been scammed.. Then what recourse do you have? None.

2. Most of the tickets on E-bays are partially used or from other suspicious sources that could be problematic. Disney tickets are non-transferable. If there is a problem and you can't explain where the ticket was originally purchased .. AND if that transaction wasn't in your name .. the tickets can be confiscated and you can be denied entry unless you purchase proper tickets.

3. Do you really want to risk losing that kind of investment to save just a few dollars?

My advice: Buy only from Disney or an authorized ticket broker.

A friend of mine purchased concert tickets to see Hannah Montana for her DD. After she paid over $100 she found out it was a scam. I would never purchase tickets on ebay, its too risky!

Never under any circumstances respond to an email that you may think is from ebay. Always go to your ebay account and if the message is legitimate, it will be in your messages via your ebay account. Also if anyone is emailing you directly without any prior contact via ebay, don't respond. People can get your information in more ways than you will know. If you have gotten scammed contact ebay immediately. I get at least 20 so called ebay scam emails everyday. No lie.

My husband has done business on ebay since they first started. His advice is that if you get an email from someone that mentions ebay, go into your ebay account. If there is a matching email, then it's OK. If not, it's a scam. And report it. If you don't have an ebay account, still report it. I get "ebay" emails from time to time and I don't have any ebay account. I report every single one of them And "paypal emails" I get. I have never used paypal in my entire life.

...I was scammed, ripped-off, you name it.

The scheme as to how it happened is worth mentioning.

About me - I have been on eBay for 8 years, as both a buyer and seller (and I like to assume anyone with a 100% rating earned it, because they are good, honest businesspeople).

Not so, in this case...

Recently, I did a "Buy it Now" ($175 for a $200 Southwest Airlines GC) on eBay. Promptly got the gift card number (via e-mail, as many do for online bookings), booking went fine. Piece of cake.

Then, a while later...

I received a call from SWA's home office in Dallas. It turned-out that this SWA GC was procured with a fraudently-obtained credit/debit card number (the CC/DC owner's bank had appearantly done a formal dispute of the CC/DC charges with SWA, who traced the purchased GC number as having been redeemed by me).

Needless to say, after explaining to SWA how I obtained their GC, I had to pay SWA the lost $200, or risk losing my reservation.

As for Mr. Seller (I have another name for him, but I'll play nice, here), strangely-enough he is no longer on eBay, which has made trying to reach him difficult, since he doesn't seem to know how to answer the phone.

As for recouping the lost $$$, that is still a work in progress -- I'll let anyone who is interested know how it pans-out...

Good advice, CG. Experts will tell you that buying any Disney theme park tickets from eBay, or anyone not legally connected/licensed by Disney Parks, is basically a crap-shoot -- especially, since Disney is now in the business of matching finger scans to certain tickets.

OMG! Same here. I don't have an Ebay or Paypal account and I keep receiving emails that the message line reads . . . We need to speak with you immediately regarding your Ebay and Paypal account. I delete it. But, I get one at least once a week! :headache: I hate spam! I have to laugh when I see the "lottery" ones. Do people actually respond to those?
