So now I am allergic to seafood, and trust me as much as I love it, I will never ever ever eat it again! Twice now I have gotten very ill after eating Seafood, this last round really laid me up! It is not worth it. All I have to say is WOW, was I sick. :sad2:

I think that would be the worst thing ever for me since it's my favorite food. Sorry to hear it's making you sick. Hopefully there are plenty of other things that you like even better so you won't miss it.

Me! Very allergic. Really, super-allergic. It's cool, because I don't like that stuff anyway.

I miss bananas, strawberries, and fresh carrots and tomatos, though. :(

Sorry to hear you can't have a food you like - totally sympathetic.

Kitty...aren't you in Jersey??? How ya going to live without seafood :confused3 That would make me very sad :guilty: I'm sorry

Same here, it happened summer of 2005. No more seafood for me. :(

I have almost died a couple of times from seafood coming in contact with my food.

My mom is allergic to fish but not shellfish. Over the past 10-20 years...she got "food poisoning" a number of times. The very last time I asked her if it ever occurred to here that with all these different places that she might just be allergic to fish (she ate fish every time). Since she gave up fish she has never gotten "food poisoning" again. She learned about this allergy pretty late in life.

count me in! I can eat small portions of fish, but absolutely no shellfish. Funny thing is I always hated fish. My mother has plenty of stories about taking the family out to a seafood restaurant when we were kids. The entire family feasted on fresh seafood, I had a hamburger. I did love clams and clam chowder, I really miss those! Unfortunately I don't get the "food poisoning" symptoms, I get the "I can't breath, where's the benedryl" reaction. I almost ended up in the hospital after eating at a Chinese buffet, someone must have put a serving spoon from a shellfish dish into something I ate.

my fiance is allergic to Mahi-Mahi. he gets a really bad reaction. his face puffs up, he gets hives, and his throat closes up. so now i carry benadryl with me every where we go just incase any of it has touched our food.

If you are allergic to shellfish you are also very likely allergic to iodine (betadine). Good thing for any of your health care people (Dr., Dentist, etc) to know.

My son is allergic to shellfish. He WAS allergic to all fish- but he outgrew that one! :cheer2: We have to carry an epi pen with us at all times. He is also allergic to peanuts. We are hoping that since he outgrew the fish he will outgrow the others too.

I'm allergic to shellfish but used betadine after having DS without any issues. Maybe it depends on the level of sensitivity.

I have always been grossed out by shellfish, so I wouldn't have eaten it anyway. I only knew about my allergy b/c it showed up when I was being tested for other things (it was my only serious allergy reaction when tested). I can eat Thai food cooked with oyster sauce, but one bite of DH's linguini with clams (and I made sure I ate no clams - just the linguini with the sauce) gave me a strange reaction - I felt suddenly weak and weird about 45 min after eating it, and then the tops of my feet started to itch. The weak feeling passed within 30 mins, but my feet itched for 3 days! I never had any stomach issues with it - I tend to get skin issues instead.

I am mildly allergic to fish according to the tests, but I've never noticed a reaction. I don't like fish particularly much anyway, and usually only eat well-seasoned tuna from a can! Oh, and a good fried flying fish sandwich with hot pepper sauce is awesome! The irony is that DH is obsessed with fishing and absolutely loves to eat any kind of fish/shellfish!

My husband is allergic to "scallops"... :sad2:

I am too! Scallops, muscles, or anything like that makes me physically ill. The last time I had a (as in 1) muscle I thought I was going to have to have DH take me to the emergency room.

I just plain don't like seafood. My FIL, however, is VERY allergic to iodine, so he can't eat shrimp (which really bums him out b/c he loves shrimp).

I'm allergic to lobster. I don't even recall what it tastes like, I got so violently ill about a millisecond after I swallowed it. I love shrimp tho, and that doesn't bother me at all.
