Anyone allergic to most sunscreens?

Many, mostin fact, sunscreens irritate my skin. I use sunscreen daily (for work) and I love Banana Boat kids! I use the 50spf, no tearing hypoallergenic waterproof one. It's in the tube, not the sprays (which irritate my skin).

I just can't use any sunscreen with scents or added stuff like bug repellant or any of that. The Banana Boat Kids is the one I've used for years. I get it at Walmart. Oh, I can also use the plain titanium dioxide for faces-it's actually very similar to Banana Boat except it comes in a little pot. There is nothing added to that one either and Walmart has it too.

My son is allergic to most suscreen. Sometimes he can use banana boat baby, but I have found the ingredients change from time to time. So we always read the label even if it is a sunscreen we have used for years.

He mostly uses copportone water babies pure and simple. (not the regular water babies.) He can also use Blue Lizard and Neutrogena sensative skin.

I think the indredient he is allergic to is avobenzone, because if we ever try anything with that he has a reaction.

My youngest 2 kids are allergic to most sunscreens. The only one I have found so far that they can use is Blue Lizard Baby.

I thought I was, but now I'm thinking it's the sun that I'm allergic to.

DD is super sensitive to sunscreens on her face. The only one I've found that doesn't make her face burn, turn red and get chapped (even without sun exposure) is Blue Lizzard Sensitive.

My teenage son is the allergic one. He can only use Neutrogena Cream sunscreen(not the sprays- he's allergic to those:confused3)

Arbonne has wonderful, non-allergenic sunscreens, and they are the only brand I use on myself and my kids. They have both baby/kid and adult sunscreens. PM me if you would like more info!

I have the same problem on my face with sunscreen....it burns my face really bad and makes my face turn red.

The only thing with sunscreen I've been able to wear on my face that doesn't burn and make it turn all red is my makeup/foundation, but the SPF in makeup is pretty low....usually around a 10.

I'll give Blue Lizzard Sensitive a try! Thanks! :thumbsup2

If you have photosensitivity, try taking a non-drowsy antihistamine everyday. Even generic loratadine works very well and it's not expensive. :thumbsup2

If you skin turns red, splotchy, gets itchy and/or it burns, even after only a very short time in the sun, that is a histamine reaction, which is why a antihistamine works so well for photosensitivity. I found this out a few years ago from my doctor when I went to see him for the same problem. It worked like magic. Now I can be out in the sun all day without those problems.

I am allergic to parabens, lanolin and sodium benzoate plus some other undiagnosed chemical allergies (i still react to some products without those chemicals, but we havent been able to pin point what yet.). I also have severe eczema.

I have tried every paraben free, lanolin free, preservative free, sensative skin sunscreen out there. The ONLY thing that I can use is Vanicream sunscreen. It is relatively expensive though. It costs us $15 for a 4 oz tube. Most places do not carry it in the store though. We usually have to order it. Our local pharmacy usually has 1 or 2 in stock but CVS, Walgreens, etc have never had it in stock. They've always had to order it (at least where i've lived).

My dd6 has eczema very badly and all sun screens seem to bother her but Arbonne is fabulous for her....the only kind of sunscreen I used on her as a toddler, her skin is getting more tolerant but she was completely an Arbonne baby for soaps and sunscreen until age 5. Can't say enough good things about it and I don't even sell it:goodvibes

I wear a huge hat and put towels over my legs and back. My arms do ok with sunblock as long as it's fragrance free and a low #. I use a combination of zinc and titanium oxide on my face. Makes me look sick.

I'm not allergic, but I have a couple skin problems that necessitate visits to the dermatologist.

He started me using Vanicream products, which are WONDERFUL. I use the bar soap, the light moisturizer, and the sunscreen for my face (I use cheaper stuff for my body). They're in the same price range as the good-quality mainstream stuff (like Aveeno), but they're made for sensitive skin /people with allergies.

They're NOT prescription, but the only place I can find them locally is behind the counter at the Target Pharmacy. You have to know to ask for them.

I highly recommend the whole product line.

Eczema is one of the reasons I go to the dermatologist. I needed prescriptions to bring my skin "to normal", but now the Vanicream products keep it at bay . . . as long as I never, never miss a morning or an evening!

For me it is PABA and waterproof sunscreens that burn worse than the sun. I've been okay with the non-waterproof, non-sport, paba free coppertone, no-ad, and aveeno sunscreens, even the spray aveeno.

Frankly I still hate them all and would just rather limit my sun exposure.

Try a mineral/physical sunblock instead of the chemical kind.

I pick up mineral sunblock at Whole Foods supermarkets or a local health food store. It's best to test some on a small patch of skin during the daytime to see if you react to it first.

Also watch out for certain chapsticks if it turns out you're allergic to certain chemicals. A lot of them have a chemical SPF nowadays.

I just wanted to add that DD has a friend that vacations with us often. She is fine with any type of sunscreen, but has a reaction (the reaction is sunburn-like) to some pools (especially Disney pools!).

I found this stuff...http://www.dermaswimpro.com/. It works great but she has to use it often and it's very slimey.
