Anyone afraid to wear their engagement ring and/or wedding ring in the parks of WDW

I am curious if anyone is afraid of their ring falling off or the stone falling out etc. (especially on rides) If so, what are you doing with your ring, so you feel more comfortable wearing it? If you are not wearing your ring, where are you keeping it? I have been worried about this for a while and I would hate to spend half of my time there making sure my ring does not fall off.

Anyone else have the same worries?

Do you have insurance on your ring? Mine is like $300 a year and they replace with the exact same stone if anything happens.

Kristen14 - I do not have insurance on my ring at this time. Good suggestion though.

Well, as far as the stone falling out.... you should NEVER have to be afraid of this. If a setting has been done right, this should not be a problem. If you are worried about it, make sure you have the setting checked by the jeweler. I know that for my first marriage, the engagement ring had a guarantee from the jeweler on the setting as long as I had the setting checked by them every 6 months. They did have to fix the setting one time, too. But that ring was gold, and I don't know what the prongs that held the diamond were made of. I know they bent more easily than I would have liked though, so having the guarantee was a good thing.

The ring I have now... my DH ended up getting it from a jeweler we found on the internet because it's a very custom ring that I specifically wanted. The jeweler was very good to work with, though, and I'm really not too worried about it. Besides, the entire setting is platinum, and these prongs aren't budging.

Really, though, it's more likely that you would catch your ring on something in day-to-day wear and bend a prong than it would get dislodged just riding a ride (unless you hit it really hard getting on or off the ride). But I would say there's no more danger losing the stone doing that than any other activity. And if there's a danger losing your stone during daily activities, there's a problem with your setting.

Now, as far as losing the ring itself.... that depends mainly on how you have the ring sized and you wearing habits. Me - I didn't worry about it in the least. The way I have the rings sized, and the way rings fit my fingers, once they are on, even if they are a little loose, they won't fall off. But you know how rings fit you. Do you have a problem with rings slipping off your hands? I don't think the rides are more likely to knock them off than any other activity, but if you sometimes have trouble with them slipping off some, and it concerns you, then you might not want to take them into the parks.

Also, are you someone who takes your rings off every time you wash your hands? If so, I would say you might not want to take them into the parks. Me - I take them off when I shower, but to just wash my hands, I just leave them on, and figure I can clean them at home later. I would rather do that than take a chance I will forget and leave them on the sink, or knock them down the drain, or something like that. And at the parks, you have the added danger that you don't know who's standing next to you at the sinks, and if you take them off and set them down without thinking about it, they could be gone before you realize it. So if taking them off when you wash your hands is a habit for you, I would recommend leaving them at the hotel.

The only time I left mine behind was the morning we did the Dolphin Discovery tour. This wa because we knew ahead of time that we couldn't take ANY jewelry whatsoever backstage with us, and we didn't want to leave our rings in their lockers. We took them off at the hotel and locked them in the safe in our room. Other than that, I wore them the whole time and didn't even think twice about it.

But I do have some rings that fit loosely, and if they fit the way those rings do, I would never have worn them into the parks. I've had those fly off my hands just walking along. They would never have stayed on during a ride.

Bottom line is...put your rings on someplace "safe", where you won't lose the rings. Now - shake your hand and fling it around as hard as you can with your fingers completely open. Do the rings stay on? Do they slip even a little? If they stay on, and don't slip off at all, then I think it's safe to wear them. You should be able to tell how secure they feel.

osxgirl- Thank you for the great advice. Well at times my ring loosens up (more so when I am cold which should not happen in florida). It also loosens up when I wash my hands so I am concerned about that in the parks.

So the WDW hotels have safes? Who gives you the combination to the safe or do you program it yourself so you are the only one who has access to it (i.e the maid service/room service).
I am thinking that I might need it resized but since I am still losing weight I think I need to wait a bit. I did the flinging of my hand thing to check, now I think everyone at work thinks I am crazy or a spaz. Oh well.
Thanks again :surfweb:

We stayed at Shades of Green for a couple of days before the wedding, and then stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for the rest of our trip. I didn't really pay attention to the safe at Shades of Green, but I think it was one where you input the code yourself. At the Wilderness Lodge, it just had a key in the lock and you just locked it yourself and took the key with you.

What the safe setup is will probably depend on how recently refurbishment has been done on the resort where you're staying.

Here's something else for you to consider - if you are losing weight, and it is going to be difficult for you to get your rings sized before the wedding, or you would rather wait until after, but you would still like to be able to wear them before, one solution I used many years ago on my high school class ring when I had lost weight was that I put a ring guard on it. Not a little plastic one - those don't really help much. What I'm talking about is a metal one that really helps the ring conform to your finger. Here's a URL:

http://www.viewithere.com/ring_guard/

These work really well. It's a good temporary solution if you don't want to resize a ring until you are sure you are at a stable weight and are ready to have it permanently resized. It also helps a lot if your fingers swell and shrink a lot with heat and cold. That way, you can have the ring as big as you need for when your fingers are swollen with the heat, and the ring guard will take up the slack when they shrink in the cold.

But you know, I think, just to be sure, you might need to do another test. Yes, I think the hokey pokey with your rings on is called for to see how your rings handle that kind of action. Yep, I'm sure that wil REALLY test it.... :rotfl2:

And all your office is just sitting around, popcorn:: , waiting to see what you do next!!!

Sorry, I just HAD to! :lmao:

I've worn my ring every time we go to WDW and I've not had a problem. I am super paranoid about my stone because Jared chipped my stone when I stupidly let them set it...but that's another story! I am also super careless with my left hand because I'm left-handed so my ring is always hitting stuff. I've not had a problem even with my sad chipped stone.

I am not, however, wearing my enagement ring or "real" wedding band on our honeymoon to Paris. I am wearing a plain white gold band then.

No. I am fine with my rings in the parks. My E-ring was originally 1 size too big, though, and it would fly off my finger...I worried then! LOL

The only time I didn't wear my rings was on DCL when we were at Castaway...I never swim with my jewelry anyway...I locked them in the safe...

been married 7 yrs and NEVER ever ever take my rings off fo any reason, and Im super active and have done WDW 11 times while married and NO prob ever,;)

Oh, I forgot to mention, and not to freak anyone out, but I was on the tram once at Disneyland going back to the parking lot, and there was a mother with her kids and another family who just noticed at that very moment that she had lost the diamond out of her ring. She was devastated. So make sure that your stone is secure before you go...

I think I am going to look into the ring guard suggestion, I think my fingers swell and contract a lot. I too am left handed and I feel like I am always careless with my left hand. No more stares from the office crowd. I'm playing it cool.:cool1:

I wear my ring on all the rides all the time and have never had a problem and it's ever so slightly loose. It spins around a lot but doesn't really slide up and down. The only time I don't wear my ring is in chlorine because if you swim a lot (I do) chlorine can damage all sorts of stones and metals.

I have to second this emotion from MousekaMaddi. I never take my rings off (any of them). I have been married for almost 20 years and I have never had any problems.

Of course, I realize that anything can happen at any time. But I refuse to worry about everything. I used to tell my Granny that I never worry because I knew she was worried enough for the both of us! She would just laugh. I miss my Granny, now I DO have to do some worrying since she's gone...

If it makes you feel better, go to your jeweler and have them thoroughly inspect the ring and have it cleaned before you leave. They may even have a few of the guards that osxgirl was talking about.

Have a good time:grouphug:

I had my ring appraised and insured through our home owners insurance. Also make sure you have your ring check out for loseness. If your ring is fairly new you shouldn't have to worry about the stone falling out... Always insure your diamonds.... That was the first thing my huband did even before he gave it to me...

I have insurance, so no, I am not afraid.

As far as stones coming loose. Yes, it does happen. I have banged my ring (platinum) several times and the stone has become loose (I have also bent a prong nearly in half - I guess I am rough).

My jeweler, like another poster said, recommends having prong checks every 6 months...I love doing this since she polishes it and dips it to and it looks brandy new.

You probably have a gorgeous ring that means a heck of alot, don't be afraid to wear it. ;) :) Just get some insurance...

I wore my engagement ring in Disney last summer and it was okay. I have a simple one stone typical ring. I am a very active person and did just about everything you could do at Disney and it never came off. I did check it about 50 x a day to make sure, but it was fine. But I agree, if you are unsure, just take out some insurance and you'll be fine!!

I was worried about wearing my ring anywhere until I got it sized. I have probably worn it to Disney about 10 times since, and I haven't had any problems.

Thanks everyone very helpful. I guess whatever I decide I am still probably going to check my ring 100 times.:lmao:

I wasn't worried because my e ring is pretty tight especially when we are usually in Disney its summer time. Only when I get cold does it get loose. Actually I have a problem with my finger breaking out when it's real humid so this past trip I didn't even take them.
