I just love this show, but I always wonder:

HOW IN THE HECK DO THESE YOUNG COUPLES WITH LITTLE KIDS AFFORD THESE OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE HUMONGOUS HOUSES?!?

It's obvious that these houses are in Southern California, where I know a really dinky house costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. I only shudder to think what these 3500 square foot houses cost that have a pool, large yard, 3 car garage, master "suites" that are bigger than my great room, etc.

I make a very nice salary, am single, and have no kids, but there is no way I could afford anything like the houses these people buy.

Are they just showing the people who are the exception rather than the norm? You can talk about them being in debt to buy a house all you want, but when it comes down to it, a bank won't lend you but so much money based on your income and your current debt.

I am a fan of that show, I just like to see the houses.

I like the show also. I'm watching it right now and laughing at the canned, stupid comments they make about the rooms. "I can see the kids playing while I make dinner." ;)

I also don't get the fascination with double sinks in the bathroom. In my opinion it takes away counter space and is just another pipe that can leak. :scratchin But to each his own.::yes::

I love looking on realtor.com at the cost of houses in different parts of the country. My son and I will sit and look at 45 million dollar homes in Southern California and laugh.

I love that show but didn't watch tonight, since I'm a night owl I'll tune in later.

I love watching that show. I hope to one day use what I have learned from that show if we buy a house. I wish they had it on more often.

I love to watch this show. It is so cheesy though. It makes me laugh when something like so easily changed is a dealbreaker (like one floor or the paint in one room).

Do these people get any monitary/realtor discount payment for being on this show? I like watching it just to see other homes in the country but I wish they would give an idea of what these homes cost somehow, though and what state they are in.

What's the HGTV show where a couple has three designers come in and present their ideas for a room/area remodel? And what ever happened to that show where the family in the MD/DC area was general contracting the building of their house? I saw about 3 or 4 epsiodes last year then poof it was gone.

Oh I love Designer's Challenge! That's a great show :) But like House Hunters, it's a show where people who have LOTS of money are on. I mean, who can afford $30,000 to redecorate a single room? Uhm..... :o I still love the show though, and I ike House Hunters, though have not seen many episodes. I love the overdramatic....are they going to get the house? *everyone hold your breath!!* :p :p :p

LOL I love when they say 'And they want to do it on a budget of $50,000 for labor and materials.  for ONE room!!!!

I always tell DH, "well we're close to the end of the half hour, do you think they'll get it?" And miraculously the camera crew is always there when the phone rings with the wonderful news.

Are you talking about Dream House where this couple with ONE child is building an 11,000 square foot custom home? She was pregnant when this show started; I think they just put an African mural for the two year old boy and it is still not done. DH keeps watching it but I can't stand this show.

And, Designer's Challenge...there was one that paid $35,000 for remodelling of the MASTER BATHROOM! This show is also not for the average home owner. I also have seen nicer finished rooms with Trading Spaces!

LOL I know! Just like my mom and I were watching Designer's Challenge the other day, when the designer took the couple in to look for something.

Miraculously they have the *perfect* item for them, in the correct size, shape, style, and stain...all ready to go!

And then you hear about the couples who increase their budget to allow for something else they wanted, but they couldn't fit in with the original amount of money they set aside for the project? Puh-lease! It's insane!! ::yes::

I like House Hunters too. Definitely some annoying lines and people though. DH always makes fun of that. For example, one couple said "wow, what nice windows, and they look right outside" or something like that...where else does a window go to? They made that same comment about the doors too. Also, we wonder if they get some money or help fixing/decorating their new houses, cuz everything is almost always perfectly in place and decorated like 6 wks later....unbelievable.

I like House Hunters, but prefer Double Agents. On Double Agents they usually give the house price (I'm nosy) and a lot of the time they end up not getting a house.

no the Discovery Channel, it's on weekdays at 4:00 and I think it's also on the weekend but I'm not sure of when

I love this show. But I would like to know what the house costs too.

My husband laughs at the show because 9 times out of 10 the husband will say something like "oh, I could do my music in here". Seriously - they almost always mention their music. Do all the men in California do something with music?

I did see one show where the couple didnt get the house - so they went back and chose a different one. And then of course said they were much happier than if they had got the original house.

Dh & I like this show too. But we feel it give a to "simplistic" view for buying a home. It does not show the negotiations on price (we negotiated for abt a week), the inspections, (how many people do you know who lost their "dream house" because of problems the inspector found?!), the mounds of paperwork, etc.

We would also like to know the price of the homes, too.

We *LOL* a week or two ago when an older couple was buying a condo. They actually turned one down because the bedroom had carpet! They wanted wood floors. They were so lucky because their realator found the exact same condo but with wood floors!
