We will be staying at SOG from 10/10 to 10/15. Has anyone stayed there lately? Have the renovations been completed? Does anyone have any pictures?

Thanks in advance...

Alot of people have been saying alot of nice thinks about SOG.

You can go to the top of the screen and click search. Search "SOG" or "shades of green". There has been alot said about SOG in the past few weeks.

I'm going in May 05 and I can't wait!:bounce:

WE WILL BE ARRIVING THERE ON 8/23 AND STAYING FOR 8 DAYS. WILL GIVE AN UPDATE WHEN WE GET BACK. NEVER STAYED THERE BEFORE SO WE ARE VERY CURIOUS. STILL DEBATING SPLITTING UP FOUR DAYS AT AKL.:smooth:

We stayed there when it was still undergoing some renovations to the new wing. The lobby looked like it was going to be outstanding when it was finished.

One thing I would recommend is to bring your own bar or liquid soap. They gave you some kind of green apple liquid soap at the sink & also in the shower, which is absolutely awful.

We stayed in the old wing & were very close to the "quiet" pool. I have heard that the new wing is quite a distance from both of the pools. They did not add a new pool when they added the new wing.

Have a great time when you're there! :D

We stayed at SOG during the 4th of July. We had a room in the new wing. The resort is lovely. All of the restaurants are now open. They finished up some landscaping while we were there, but the resort seems to be finished. The new wing is away from the pool area. We went down the back stairs and followed the paths to the pool so it isn't too far. I think you will enjoy the resort.

Hi! We just got back form SOG this weekend. We were attending the Tinkerbell pin event and just went for 1 night - Saturday.

We have never stayed at SOG and thought we would give it a try. We arrived about 11 am and the room wasn't ready - which was fine. The CM told us to come back at 3pm - but not close to 3pm because they had 200 check-outs and it would probably be longer. That was our check-in.

When I was walking away I noticed the couple next to us was being given all kind of info about the facilities along with a map and bus schedule. I went back and asked the "charming" CM if I could have some of the same info and she replied - "You will recieve that at check-in ma'am" . I'm thinking to myself that she did not give a very good first impression - she sould have told us where we could get our tickets, where the restaurants are, where the pool is and where to change etc. - the basic layout of the resort.

We went to the pin event and came back around 4pm - the new "charming" CM must have taken lessons from the early morning CM because she gave us our key and showed us where our room was located and that was it!! At this point - I wanted to get to room and take a nap in anticipation of our dinner at Kona cafe - yum!

Our room was in the new wing and was absolutely beautiful and roomy - we loved it. Our room was at the furthest point of the hotel and it was quite a hike. My husband went to take a swim and when he got to the quiet pool - he had to go back to the other pool to get a towel!

We did not try the restaurants because our new fave restaurant is Kona cafe and we ate dinner and breakfast there.

We enjoy being "Disneyfied" and pixie dusted when we go to Disney and SOG did not provide that atmosphers for us. The room was wonderful and the parking garage was very convenient but in the future we will stay at a Disney hotel.

The highlight was the Shady Shuttle - golf cart - that took us to the end of the road so we could go to the Poly and catch the monorail.
Then after, our long day and we had gotten off the monorail to head back to the hotel - I told my husband that I wish the Shady Shuttle would be there to pick us up. Well, we came around the corner and there he was - my feet were thrilled to see him!

horsewings - If you don't mind me asking what exactly is the shady shuttle? My parents will be at the SOG and we will be staying at the Poly, so if it can get us back and forth that would be wonderful (we have a 3-yr old who defintely perfers her grandparents over us :))

Hi Princesslondon! We just came upon the shuttle by accident as we were wandering from the parking garage. He asked where we were going and we said Poly and he said I can take you to the main road.

It is a Golf cart that seats about 6 people and he shuttles people back and forth down the path from SOG to the Poly - there were signs on it that said Shady Shuttle. He drops you off at the end of the street that is the entrance for SOG. All you do then is cross the main street and you are at the Poly.

There is a sidewalk - and it is a nice walk after dinner but when your feet are killing you - it was a nice sight to see the shuttle.

When we checked out - we saw the shuttle in the parking garage taking people to their car.

I would ask one of the bellboys or ask at check-in about it.

Enjoy your stay at the Poly - we were there in June and LOVED it!!

Hope this helps -
Jean

We checked out on Saturday aftr spending a week at SOG. We were in the old section and were very happy with our room and housekeeping. However hotel management in general left a lot to be desired. Bell service was very poor, the excahnge shop is poorly staffed and restaurant personnel were either very good or totally indifferent to customer service. To their credit, management listened to my comments, but my point is that after being reopened for almost 4 months, the management problems should now be resolved. The facility is beautiful and we will go back, but we will go with much lower expectations.

As I posted before, we were there during one of the first few weeks they were open. We found the same thing, however, we were hoping it would change as time went on. Obviously, not yet. We're going to try again next March/April with my Air Force brother. Hopefully it will be better.

We're then heading to OKW for a week & then the WL, so we will get immersed in the Disney magic luckily!!! :D
