Does anybody have any experience of renting points for a DVC stay - good or bad ?

Have seen the thread on Dis on wondered if would be a good move or not.

I didn't rent out points, but I did do two transfers to other DVC owners in order to pay for out week in a condo at Key West last summer (which was incredible, by the way!!). Our trade to II never went through, so I posted on the DIS DVC rent/trade board and got several responses. It was definitely a leap of trust between us, but everything went very smoothly. I called DVC and made the transfer, receiving a confirmation number. I then called/e-mailed the confirmation number to the recipient and they sent me a bank cashier's check for payment. I have only met very kind and honest DIS members, and these transactions are proof of that.

We rented a few times from the same renter, got hooked on DVC and own now. Like others only wish we did it sooner.

Don't do it unless you want to end up owning DVC. It's a common theme over here.

Yup the previous poster is right ....I have rented 3 times and now I own at BWV....:)

I have had 3 different people that I rented from and all were very nice and everything went smoothly. Just make sure you have a contract to protect both parties...:)

We rented from a great owner! We ended up buying into DVC before we used her points, but honored our contract anyway. We ended up with an extravagent stay at a 2 bedroom in the VWL and enjoyed every minute. Very, very good experience!

Can anybody tell me if the rooms are well maintained. I have read a couple of reviews which haven't been that complimentary.

I would love to convience DH that it's a good idea

I am a DVC member and have both rented points from other DVC members and have rented out to others. I used the money to book an Alaskan cruise. I have had no issues on either front.

The units are generally well maintained. I have found no rooms that I thought were in terrible shape and I ahve beena member for over ten years. Sometimes you will find the normal wear and tear. Be careful, once you rent a one bedroom you will be spoiled and not want to return to a "regular" room ever again. :)

Which resort are you interested in? We have had very few maintenance issues at OKW in 10 years and 20+ stays.

I would like to try BCV or WLV and if we were to buy I would be looking at AKL as we loved our stay there in Jan.

I have found the rooms on all of our DVC stays well maintained. They are well designed and lovely! :goodvibes

Depending on when you plan to go you may be able to stay at AKL Villas as I just saw a post on the DVC rent/trade for 500 points to be used by Sept 30th 2007 @ $12 per point. Good Luck!

We're there for a week in June - so to early for AKV and then just over 2 weeks at Christmas. Is it to early to be booking AKV for Dec?

We've rented once and are about to do it again. We had a wonderful experience, although I was nervous. But that's the risk you take to be able to stay at a deluxe resort for much less.

Yep. same thing here!:lmao: Don't rent unless you are ready to buy! Haven't made our first trip home yet, but have rented from someone and I recommend it to anyone and everyone that I hear about that is planning a trip. I have also rented points to people (was going to cover the cost of a Disney cruise, but plans changed!) You simply get so much more. A lot of people say "We aren't in our room that much, I wouldn't use a kitchen so why have it?" Even if you don't use it that often, it is just convenient! Breakfasts, keeping snacks and drinks in the room, mid-day meals if you come back to the room. The extra space to move around in is fabulous. Plus, I think you enjoy the resort more. I know we won't spend every day in the parks this time because of staying in a 2BR. There is plenty to do at the resorts and you don't feel cramped in the room.

Go for it!
