Anybody NOT like Hoop De Doo?

We're planning a trip to the cabins and I sort of feel like we should go to HDDR b/c it's right there, but honestly it doesn't look that great to me. Anybody else think it looked not-so-fun on youtube, but then ended up actually having a great time? Our kids will be 9 and 5 when we go. DS9 hates loud environments and would be really nervous about the possibility of someone interacting with him. DS5, well, he'd definitely be the one playing the washboard, he'd be totally into it. I'm torn between not wanting to miss a "must see" and thinking that maybe it's okay to just admit it's not a good fit for us. Ditto for the restaurant at Wilderness Lodge... All opinions either for or against are welcome! TIA!

Honestly - I didnt love it. But Im not a huge dinner show fan. Just give me great food man.

We had our 2 oldest grands (gd9 and gs6) there in August. Gd is just like your oldest son and she actually enjoyed the show. 6yr old gs really loved it (he was on the washboard). We personally go just about every trip to WDW.

We have seen this show a few times. The first time for us was very good, each time after it became more cornier, (to us). So at this point I'm not a great fan.
I would like to point out that this show is the ONLY place at Disney that serves "ALL YOU CAN DRINK BEER and WINE" while at the show, :thumbsup2.
It is my opinion that this helps to make the show more enjoyable.

I absolutely LOVE the HDDR, but will be quick to admit that it isn't for everybody. If you have a child who hate noise and the spotlight, this is not a good fit. If you have folks in your group who 'take themselves seriously' and can't embrace the corniness, this is not a good fit. If you can let loose and get into the swing of things you will have a blast.

We absolutely LOVED it! We went last Wednesday evening for the first time. Our 2 year old and 5 year old loved it as well. Somehow we ended up right up front....it was great! And the food was probably the best we've had at Disney.

Not sure if they ever change the show up.....but if not, I can see how it may get boring a second time to hear the same stuff. But it was really funny! LOVE Sixpence!

Is it ...

1. worth the $60/person no

2. is the food good I think so

3. can it be a good time - DEFINITELY

4. is it some what corny, Yes

5. should you do it at least once - DEFINITELY

Since 1985 we have done it twice before and are doing it again now just two years later as a surprise requested by our DIL for Hubby for their anniversary.

To piggyback on LarryJ's comments about being worth $60:

You could easily spend $30 on some very bland food and have it be terrible but the food is good at HDDR.

For the purchase price you also get domestic beer or sangria INCLUDED IN THE PRICE (when we went at Memorial Day weekend the Cold Beer - pitchers of it - was worth it).

Tax and Tip are included (figure 10% and 20% respectively).

So the entertainment hardly costs anything extra. And it is corny. And sweet. And wholesome. And funny.

So I would recommend HDDR.

I think it something everyone must do at least once.

It definitely somethng that you have to do at least once, to experience it. We, however enjoy the corny-ness slap stick vaudville style and go almost everytime we head down the WDW. This trip we werent going to go, but the kids really were upset that it wasn't going to be in the plan, so we caved and went once again. They are 9 and 7, girl and boy, and they loved it! We had my brother with us, and he shaves his head, so they picked on him all night and called him Mr. Clean. His son, my nephew is 4.5mo old and one of the female singers came over and planted a big red smooch on his head. I agree with a few others, that yes, if you are not used to loud places or have a few reserved people in your party it probably isnt the place for you. You may want to give the Mickeys Backyard BBQ a try. It has a small band, with a country singer that sings popular country songs, as well as a character appearance by Chip and Dale, Mickey and Minnie and Goofie. The interaction is great and they come out and dance with the kids. There is also a "rope show" and they do conga lines, and line dancing. There is also FREE beer and wine included in your price as well as gratuity, and its a bit cheaper than the Hooptee Doo Review. We did that this last visit which was a first for us and again, the kids loved it.

As far as Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness, another great interactive place, but no characters. The wait staff is hilarious. Just dont ask for ketchup.....if you do, they will grab all the kids at the tables to gather up all the ketchup bottles, and you will have them all at your table. OR.......ask for a "little more soda"......and you will get a mini mason jar the size of a shot glass with a 3ft. straw. Ask for a straw and you are liable to get a box of them dumped in your lap. We went there last time and had a blast.

Ok, so I think I am done for now. Sorry, I tend to ramble on, just ask anyone on here.....LOL whatever you decide you will have a great time!!!!

Oh it's absolutely magnificent! The food is really good and the show is very entertaining- I just turned 20 and I couldn't have had any more fun at this show. I highly recommend it- one of the greatest eats in the World. Enjoy!

I agree. And kateymcg...welcome to the boards!

As to whether the show changes, the answer is "a bit". The big songs and bits are all the same, but there is also a fair amount of audience interaction which is done largely ad lib. At Christmastime SixBits does his "I'm Gettin' Nothin' for Christmas" number. But the familiarity can be one of the draws. The second time we went, the audience was made up largely of people who had been many times before, and were singing along and preempting the jokes... it made the show even more hilarious! Almost like going to "Rocky Horror Picture Show"! So, between the ad lib bits and the audience participation, the show is never quite the same. My only fear of disappointment is that one of these days I'm going to get the skinny SixBits, who I'm sure is fine, but we love our Pooh-shaped SixBits!

the name of this thread should have been Who Likes The Hoop De Doo.:confused3

It saddens me to see the HDDR fall from where it once stood.......I use to be a huge defender of the longest running dinner show in all the land........I went last year to take advantage of the over priced tickets(last year for getting the kid break).......

I was rewarded with marginal food.....a rushed dining experience(we had the early show)......but other than that it was good...........

It aint nothing like it use to be.......:sad2:

Overall consensus seems to be for it, so I think we'll give it a try. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Glad you are going to try it :thumbsup2 We have gone many many times over the years (it is our one big dining out at WDW) and the show never fails to make us laugh. Plus the food is really good! Our oldest isn't real fond of new experiences or loud noise and his first time there (he was 8) was a bit of a jolt (we were right in front of the stage) but he did enjoy it and even at 18 can't imagine a trip without it.
