Well, my gp Ginny is sick. She has/had mites, so we took her to the vet. The vet gave us an anti-biotic, which we have been giving her. Now, she has diarrhea and is losing weight. To add to that, she is also really slugishy. Any of this might connect with the fact that she had crusties under her eye. Any of this might have to do with the fact that she lives in out basement (in a cage :)) and the basement has no air conditioning. Her Cage-mate died today, and her other cage mate (who might have had the samething) died a few weeks ago. So now I have her in a basket with a bowl of watter, some pellets/carrots, an ice bottle, and fleece.

The vet is closed, however we WILL be taking her first-thing tomarrow.

If you have any information about what might be going on, PLEASE post it.

im sry, but my hamster acted the same way for about a month and then she died :sad2: :sad1:

I used to have two guinea pigs... the one (3-4 years old) seemed to have diahrea, and ended up dying a couple months later, even after taking antibiotics from the vet. My guinea pig now (5years old) is still fine... he always get crusties under his eyes, but I think that's normal.

The one thing about guinea pigs is that they never show you that they are really sick until it's too late. The best thing to do is take her to the vet. I really have no other suggestions about the sickness, other than make her feel comfortable until you can take her to the vet :)

Hope everything works out! :wave2:

We took her to the vet and she said that Ginny has Nemunia (sp?) and we will give her antibiotics for 30 days. Since she will not eat on her own, we get to hand feed her.
