Anybody got any ideas - moving 400 kids

Ugh, what a mess. DS's high school is supposed to be marching in the Tournament of Roses parade this week. Well, just found out flights have been cancelled. They were supposed to leave tomorrow morning. They had performances at Bandfest, Disneyland, and the TOR parade.

Anybody got two spare jumbo jets out of Philly?

If this trip is cancelled, it will be so sad for these kids. You could not believe how hard these kids and parents have worked for this honor. Any ideas?

Can you hire a bus company driver and charter a bus to a location that has flights?

We just drove through Pasadena yesterday and it was a glorious beautiful day. I hope you don't end up missing it.

I was actually thinking about suggesting they bus everyone to a airport further down south. Well, we have a meeting in an hour to see what they are going to do.

Last Thursday, they put everyone's luggage and instruments on a tractor-trailer truck. There are 350 kids in the band and they felt this was the best way to move these items. We found out this morning, the truck arrived in Pasadena.

I was going to suggest a bus as well-especially since they will have room for all the equipment on the bus as well.

Oh, I so hope they can make it. Our weather has been lovely since all the rain stopped last Thursday. Some showers coming in Wednesday but clearing out by Thursday and lovely through the weekend.

Yep. My daughters landed there this afternoon after having their flight yesterday cancelled. The winds are horrible so the descent was rocky but the airport is open for business!

South of you things are warming up considerably the next few days. Absolutely see if you can get a bus or a whole bunch of carpools going assuming the roads are okay and fly out from another airport.

The problem is going to be the additional cost for buses and new flights. It is likely that it may be more than the parents/band can absorb.

Has anyone contacted the local paper and airlines? You'd be surprised what big businesses will get behind for a bit of good free press.

I was trying to get from philly to chicago yesterday and today. No go. I thought it would be straightened out in another day or two. However, I heard that Harrisburg airport got much less snow and is having less problems with flights. You could get there via bus.

I am in Chicago. Flights here are going--west. Flights going East, not so much. Our weather the past few days has been good, cold; but nothing to prevent flights.

I would see about getting the kids to Chicago--even if it means Amtrak; and getting a flight West.

Also--this sounds like the perfect opportunity for an airline to get some press. Southwest, United, American-----someone on the dis has to know someone?

Also call the organizers of the parade. The parade people probably have some big money/name sponsors.

Heck--call Oprah. Call your Congress people. Call everyone!

OT...what school is it/where are you located? 350 piece band sounds like a big school.

Anyway, I would definitely look to flying out of HIA, BWI, Reagan Ntl, Dulles. Heck, how about Pittsburgh?
