No! I'm scared to! I'm moving to the Florida gulf coast soon and hurricane destruction and insurance isn't something I'm looking forward to. Bullet proof windows recently installed into the place though. Metal roof soon to be added!
I have been reading some of the interesting political commentary about Katrina 5 years later though - like this article I saw today:
i've watched a few specials. i live in nola, my house didn't flood but my grandparents house did in st. bernard parish. a friend was renting it out from me and ugh what a mess. this was in mid-october when we were allowed to come back home.
there was a special on our nbc station about the local newspeople. i had no clue about some of the things they said. it only took 30 minutes for the water to get to 18 feet high in chalmette (where my house was).
and not to mention, it's been raining non-stop in the nola area since early saturday morning. mother nature is funny
i think most people here would like to forget out this, i do.
I have only watched 1 show about the guy from NOLA, perhaps a year after Katrina, drove up to D.C. with a FEMA trailer and ended up meeting with Pres. Bush.
No one I doubt will forget and the media wouldn't let us forget anyway.
When the rescuers were able to search the homes that had been completely underwater-there was a code
I think the date/if there was any pets found and if any live people found and if any bodies found
That way coroners could retrieve the dead bodies-pretty gruesome
I've been watching. I posted my Katrina story in another thread, but now that I no longer live in NOLA (full time RVer), I feel this need to closely keep up with everything that's going on back home. And it helps me process my feelings about the whole mess.
