Gone and done it again. Had a few points left and made up the difference with a cash reservation and booked 8 nights in a one bedroom at Saratoga.

So anybody been and got any tips.

Going 2 weeks tomorrow (11th till 19th) - told you it was a spur of the moment booking .... got a cracking price for Virgin Upper Class again as well.

Thanks in anticipation

We love SSR. You can walk to DTD (make sure to make ADRs before the night you are eating as does get booked up, however you are going at a quiet time and may not need to!)

We like to hire a boat a sail past the resort, it is lovely and peaceful. Be sure to tell us all about it when you get back. We are taking two other families with us when we go back in October.

Have a great time.

Hi David,

Well it is our home resort and we have stayed here twice. What we particularly enjoy is the Congress Park location - we had a fantastic DTD view, which at night with the lights and the reflections on the water is a beautiful sight :)

The quiet pool in Congress Park is especially nice for the same reason.

You are pretty close to DTD itself, it's an easy walk from Congress Park (or the rest of SSR although CP is closest). We enjoyed taking the boat up to OKW.

It is very easy to reach the Crossroads area too from here and there is a new WalMart if you go to the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd, turn right and then drive for approx 3 - 4 miles or so, it is on your right. We found it handy for drinks & snacks etc.

That's it off the top of my head!

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks. We had a walk round the "circuit" ( downtown - saratoga - downtown) when we were there in july and it looks very nice, if maybe a little on the large side.

Am actually getting a little excited, even though this was a kinda last minute trip - or is it maybe the thought of getting away from the cold and snow.

Maybe a small add-on will be required ;)

Hi Susan

do you know if you can get a wheelchair on the boat and do you hire if yourself or is there a CM to do that.

thanks
Ali

There is a boat rental place at DTD. You get a discount if you are either DVC or AP holders. You can hirer a bigger one if not too windy which should be able to hold a wheelchair. Last time we went it was too windy for the party cruiser and we got a Boston Whailer which could be a bit cramped for a wheelchair.

The unofficial guide recommends www.disney.world.com for wheelchair info.

Hope you can find what you want.

Happy New Year

thanks Susan I like to check out these things before we go so we don't get to something and we find our son can't participate as I know he would then get depressed.

thanks again

The only boats that you can actually put a wheelchair on are the pontoon boats.
You can rent a pontoon boat at DTD to drive yourself. Scroll down the page about halfway to the boat rental information.
There are also transportation boats at DTD that go between DTD and the resorts on that waterway. A wheelchair can be brought onto those boats. You could make the trip to one of the resorts, get off and look around and then take the boat back to DTD.

The floor of the pontoon boats are flat and the CM at the rental dock will help hold the boat still so you can wheel the chair on. The only factor that might be a problem is the width of the boat door. My DD's wheelchair does fit thru the door - her wheelchair is about 27 inches at its widest point (which is fairly narrow for an adult wheelchair). The useed to let the wheelchair user stay in the wheelchair while on the boat. The last few years we were told that DD needs to transfer out to a seat for safety reasons. I guess being strapped into a large chunk of metal is probably not a good idea in case your boat capsizes! (Although pontoon boats are very stable and are not going to tip over). You can park the wheelchair next to the boat seat and it is a fairly easy transfer. I looked for some pictures of pontoon boats but there are none on the DIS site. I have some, but don't have time right now to look for them.

We are members at OKW and rent a pontoon boat for a ride every trip. The waterway connects OKW, SSR, Port Orleans (French Quarter and Riverside) and DTD. A round trip of the whole waterway area takes about 1 hour.

If you have more questions about touring WDW with a wheelchair, follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES Board.

If you think his wheelchair would fit thru the door of the pontoon boat, I'd suggest asking if he is required to transfer. We were told DD would have to be out of the wheelchair, but she can do a pivot transfer with assist of one so we were able to manage it. We have always rented at OKW; they may be less "picky" about it at some other resorts.

The transportation boats (the ones CMs drive) are wheelchair accessible, so you could go on those.

SSR is lovely - i got an add on there in December - original contract is vwl and i loved it. I know it does look spread out, but the buildings are only small and all have lifts - better than going down all those internal corridors.

It really is a beautiful resort - the grounds and pools are lovely - the swimming pool is lovely and if you like spa treatments, the spa is out of this world.

When we pulled up at the resort, i was a bit unsure because of the size, but i have to say, i like it as much as VWL if not more.
