I have been racking my brain as to what to do (non-park) at Disney New Years Eve. One idea is to go over to Fort Wilderness/Wilderness Lodge area and go for a big nature walk, maybe check out the petting zoo and let the kids go for a pony ride. Then finish the afternoon off by having an early dinner at the buffet place there.

But I have never been to either Fort Wilderness or Wilderness lodge and don't know if this plan makes any sense/is even possible. We will be staying at POP and will not have a car with us. We will arrive at POP around noon (DH will drop us off and head back to the airport to fly home :guilty: ). I have a whole afternoon/early evening that the kids and I can do something fun. I know an afternoon like this would be right up DD8s (aka nature girl) alley.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have also thought about going over to the Boardwalk area and checking it out instead (I have never been there either).

I now understand how people can go to Disney time and time again. There is no way to see/do it all (over even very much of it) in a week.

Thank you

Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are my favourite places!!

The buffet at Trail's End is really good too. The easiest way to get there is to take the bus to Magic Kingdom and then take the boat to either of these resorts. (the same boat services both resorts).

Same deal with boardwalk. Take the bus to MGM and then the boat or a short 20 minute walk to the Boardwalk area.

Have a super time!

There is a campfire and movie at FW. Also there is a hayride and Dont miss the Electrical water parade.

There is so much to do at FW, there's no problem filling a day. On a down day while staying at FW, we....fed the fish from the dock (buy at the dock), poked around both the trading posts, played around at the beach, ate a yummy breakfast at Trail's End, the kids went on pony rides, visited the horses in the barn, checked out the petting zoo, went swimming, played on the big playground by the pool, went to sing a long and visited with Chip & Dale, stayed for the outdoor movie after eating smushsmallows (kids lingo) by the fire...Oh, there's more we missed like renting a boat and touring the lagoon, going fishing, going on a hay ride, and more... Lots to do for sure. Also, check out the FW Gazette - we didn't get a chance to do them but there were children's activities everyday like crafts and scavenger hunts. I don't know if these are intended for FW guests, but they don't seem to care who's a resort guest for anything else...Enjoy!

Both the Boardwalk and the Wilderness Lodge area are some of my favorite places to be in Disney! I don't even need to hit the parks, I just like to wander around a visit. You will have no problems finding things to do. Walk from the Lodge to Fort Wilderness and catch the movie under the stars! Do the loop around the Beach Club/Boardwalk area and then go play some mini-golf.
AHHHH.. I need to get back there.

Jumping in with another Fort Wilderness question. I'm arriving on a Sunday around noon and thought it would be fun to go to the Whispering Canyon for supper and than go to the campfire and movie. I thought this would be a fun way for the kids to let it sink in that were actually in WDW since they won't know until we board the plane that morning. Is this possible? Is the lodge close enough to the campgrounds to not miss the campfire if we go for supper?

WL is just a boat ride away from FW..... the boat will go from FW to MK to WL then you just catch the boat again after strait back to FW.

Just make it an earlier dinner.

WL is my absolute fav disney resort.... can't wait to go back next Oct!!
