I am thinking of taking of side trip to Cocoa Beach. Can anybody tell me what you like about it.

Thanks!

The Atlantic Grill on the Pier!!!! They have some really great nightly specials. Also, proximity to the NASA shuttle launches. Nice to watch the surfers and just chill out on the beach, closest to Orlando/Kissimmee, so get there rather quickly.

We love Grills Seafood and Papa Vito's Pizza. We stay at the Hilton on the beach and have a great time.

I like that the drive is easy, but I really don't like the beach there.

I second that, drive is easy....do not like the beach there either but we did eat at some restaurant near Ron Jon's...sat outside on the top ate decent seafood but can't remember what in the world the name was. I would take the drive on to Clearwater instead.

We've stayed at Cocoa Beach booking a night or 2 a couple of times before our WDW vacay. I love the beaches. Fun with the waves. My dds love  RonJons surf shop and surf school. The always sign up for lessons when we go. Last time we got the guy that also gives the lessons at Typhoon Lagoon (but for half the price, lol). The Pier has some nice restaurants, and like the restaurant over the bridge by Ron Jons. It's on the waterway.
First time we stayed at Best Western, wouldn't recommend it. Last Aug. we stayed at Hampton Inn- liked it much better. Both on the beach.

First visit we went to KSC, but dds found it boring :confused3

I just made an October reservation for Ron Jon's. Will we like it?

I usually prefer the Gulf coast, but since October is the tail end of hurricane season, I thought the east might be safer.

We would have probably not gone to Florida this year, but will have the Disney Give a Day tickets to use. I'm planning to upgrade them to 10-day non-expiring hoppers to use in the future.

October is usually great surfing on the East coast compared to summer time on the East Coast. There will be waves even if there are no storms or if the storms are 300 miles out in the ocean not even coming near Florida.

one thing I like about Cocoa Beach.......Lori Wilson Park on a late sunday afternoon. You see the line up of all the cruise ships going out of the port and you can get some good pics of your kids in the water with the ships in the background.

One thing you will never find on the East coast is the white soft sands that can be found on other beaches...... and it is not wanted. This area is some of the only beaches where some of the sea turtles nest and lay eggs. If we change the sand to what people like we lose the turtles. We will gladly keep the turtles- no offense intended to people- but we must preserve our beaches naturally so turtles can thrive and not become extinct. Depending on when you are here you can even make reservations to do a night turtle watch tour and watch the female turtles come out of the water to lay their eggs.

We took a day trip to Lori Wison Park. We went in the middle of the week, and it was a very uncrowded beach...very quiet and low-key with just a few families! This was just what we were looking for!

I think that you would like Ron Jon's but our preference too is for the Gulf Coast and IMHO Cocoa Beach just does not compare...We've been to the Gulf Coast (Panama City, Destin, Gulf Shores) consistently for the past 6 yrs and I just really don't care for the area but as you see many people do, so go, have fun and I would definitely tihk you'd like Ron Jon's just don't expect that beautiful water you see on the G Coast :).
