Any X-ray techs out there?

I have seen loads of teachers around the boards...but no x-ray techs. Any of you guys out there? I've been a rad tech for a little over 2 years now...just lookin for some fellow Disney lovin' techs!

Not a rad tech yet, but I'm applying for the rad tech program this winter. I got into a rad tech program a while back before DH and I got married, but I never finished. Taking A&P this fall and A&P 2 in the winter, then I'm done with my prereqs.

Years ago I worked for a Chiropractor. After some time there he trained me on how to do the x-rays. I did everything except actually take the x-ray (basic films, cervical, thoracic, lumbar) I really enjoyed it and that's what prompted me to go to school for rad tech.

Me, too! I start A&P I this fall. I took Medical Terminolgy, English, and Business Communications last semester.

Tell me about the training program, too, for Rad Tech.

I'm a retired CRT. I quit working when my kids were little, and beleive me - technology has passed me by! I keep my State License current with CEU's, but have never had my ARRT. I keep thinking that I could work in a doctor's office (a chiro, maybe) but haven't really looked. I don't think a clinic or a hospital would want to do on-the-job training to the extent that I'd need. I don't know of any "refresher" courses either.

It's a great field with some specialities. I only got an AA degree (35 years ago). I imagine most of the programs today are BS's? I learned to do mammograms using two heavy-duty balloons (one inside the other) for compression - those were the dark ages!

I'm a retired Xray tech. I did it for 20 years in the military and I didn't want to do it anymore so I'm now the assistant teacher in the infant room of a day care. It doesn't pay as much, but it's way more fun!!

Nope, still an associate's degree!

Yes it's still an Associate's! But you can go for 2 more years and get your Bachelor's which is what I am working on now. I absolutely love my job. I work at an urgent care clinic. Don't do a whole lot of x-rays some days, but other days you do about 15. Alot of nursing involved as well if they need help.

A&P I & II are the pits! I made a C in both. Hated them! In the program there is alot of physics and math to learn. Clinicals can be tough at first too. Alot to learn at first! But once you get the basics down its not so bad. But by graduation things are pretty much second nature!

I actually got pregnant over Christmas break after my 1st semester, and gave birth to my daughter in my 4th semester! Talk about tough! lol But I did it! There are alot of specialties you can go to, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Interventional, Mammo, and DEXA. I chose to just get my bachelor's as I have my eye on the Head of Radiology position at the hospital we are owned by. I figure by the time I finish my coursework and put a few more years in experience, the current head will be moving up to administration and I can get myself into his position!! That would be awesome!

Be prepared for CRAZY patients I have them all the time. Some really amaze me!! ALWAYS be up for learning new things. I have learned how to do everyones job at my urgent care, (of course can't give medications/injections since its against JCAHO regulations) including nursing and front desk. Make it nice because anytime someone is sick of needs time off I can work their shift and make some extra money! I chose not to work at the actual hospital because I am not fond of OR. We don't have a state license in NC, so we are able to do OR/Fluoro without a special license (those are required in Cali I know). Got yelled at by a orthopedic my first day in OR as a student so I have pretty much stayed away since then

yep Me. been doing mammograms for most of the past 20 years tho. no nights, weekends or holidays. No portables, barium enemas, or 2 a.m. stinking drunks on backboards. dont have the stomach for it anymore anyway.

Many other reasons why I chose an urgent care instead of the hospital! lol I have actually never done a barium enema. They are rarely done around here and I ended up having to do my competency on another student. (No barium included of course lol) Hope I never have to do one! I did enjoy IVPs though, but those are almost gone as well.
