Any world travelers out there?

For those that do a lot of traveling beside disney. How do disney vacations compare in cost. Before we had kids I was in school so we did not travel. Now that we have kids are vacations are always the dis or some other theme park. We stay deluxe so our vacations are usually around $5000-7000. I was wondering how this compares to going other places.

As a whole, my Disney vacations are much cheaper because I generally stay with my Aunt's family on site, so that cuts out the cost of a hotel stay. A weeklong trip for 2 people out to Thailand could EASILY fetch you 5000 dollars for a weeklong stay. I would stay longer though due to a lot of jet lag once you get there. This varies from place to place, obviously.

I also take small trips with my sailboat in the local area as a "staycation," but I end up burning a ton of money on other islands, even though the cost of running a sailboat is relatively low.

The cost is about the same and can be even less actually. Plane tickets may be more depending on if you fly,where you fly from,that kind of thing. Passports are way less than disney tickets, and a one time every 10 years expense. (That money can then go to the extra for plane tix in this equation)

You can stay in a deluxe hotel in another country for waaaayyyy less than a deluxe hotel at Disney. Obviously this depends on the country, if you go to Dubai it's going to be a lot,but most deluxe hotels i've stayed in are often less than say a deluxe club level room at the Polynesian. At WDW the deluxe hotel prices are mainly based on location.

I just got back from Amsterdam last week (for example) and stayed in a suite in a deluxe hotel chain in the center of the tourist district for less than i pay the poly every year, that's for sure.

Edited to add, the disney tickets is where you will find the most "savings".....dont know how many kids you have, but say, 4 disney tickets for 5 days=a whole lot of money (expense) that you won't have if you go somewhere else for your vacation.

It depends how you travel. Some Disney trips will be more affordable, but if you are a great researcher, and an even better planner you can find great deals, great places to see, and save more than you would with Disney.
