Whoa, team! Any possible reduction/elimination of AP discounts does NOT automatically mean the elimination of APs. AP discounts are NOT necessarily (and shouldn't be, IMHO) the primary motivation of most AP purchases. There are a lot of time-share folks around WDW, DVC and otherwise, as well as people who have no problem paying rack for on-site rooms who get benefits from an AP. Also, if you're looking to maximize your many-day/multiple-trip Disney value, an AP combined with off-site lodging is by far the lowest cost alternative (timeshares notwithstanding). AP discounts only benefit the subset of AP holders who 'must' stay on-site but won't pay rack.
As a side note, DW talked to CM Paulo to confirm that our final payment was all set (it is - woohoo). As they were waiting for the system to respond, I had her ask him if they were getting a lot of calls about AP rates. He laughed, and asked her if she was on the internet a lot. He then said that, yes, they were getting a lot of calls. He said that he's been at Reservations for years, and that there are a lot more people unhappy about the lack of AP rates than he can ever remember. He also said that the number of callers who are rude and abusive to CMs has increased, despite the fact that CMs are simply waiting for Marketing to make the decision. Finally, as of 12 noon EDT, no new AP rates were out.
