Any whimsical writers out there???

I have ordered the custom cake for our dinner at Sanaa, and I'm looking for another way to make the dinner extra special. I know its no guarentee that they will do a custom menu, but it doesn't hurt to ask! My problem is, I don't know what to have them put on there.


A little background....

The trip is myself, my DH, our two DDs (5 & 6) and my parents. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer about 2 years ago. She had a double mastectomy, and then we found out that it had metastacized (sp?) to her spine (alone with a few other bones). Shes on meds, and was doing just fine, until the clots in her lungs. Shes pretty much wheelchair bound now (can't breath because of the clots), and not getting better. Right now its just a waiting game to see when the clots will absorb, and she gets better. So far, she just keeps throwing more clots, and is not getting better. Sorry.... My point is, this may be our last trip to Disney together, so I want it to be special.
Its not a real family trip, because I'm one of 5 kids, and the only one going on this trip with them, so I can't call it that.... I also don't want to make mention that this may be our last trip.... kinda a bummer.....

So if you were me, how would you word custom menus?


Also, if I can't do it for Sanaa, would it be possible to have it done for our CRT dinner?


ETA: Should I call Disney Dining and ask, or do I have to call the actual restaurant? Or do I need to call Private Dining at that hotel?

How about just "The ______ Family" with the date?

They don't have a ton of room with the personalization on the menus. Mostly just one or two words and a name.

Also, good luck to your mother, I hope she beats the odds!! I know what you mean about not knowing how many trips are left. My sister has stage 3 inoperable brain cancer, and was diagnosed three years ago. We've been back twice since and every time you wonder if it's your last time together, you can't help it. My advice is just to enjoy everything, the magical and the ordinary. The memories that you carry in your heart will be very sweet.

Otherwise something like Celebrating Life with the date?

You will note it on the reservation and then ask again at the restaurant upon check in. Rusty Scrupper is the expert of what they can and can't do, and he said that it can happen at check in (depending on the level of hectic at the podium)

I would guess that Sanaa would be a better shot than CRT.

I would guess that Sanaa would be a better shot than CRT.

I like the Celebrating Life, thats nice. It seems semi generic though, so I'd like to add something else to it... maybe the dates of our vacation.

ETA - I'm on hold with a CM right now - She says shes been there for 2 years, and never heard of this before.... And she asked her supervisor, and they never heard of this either. Shes checking one more place right now..... I swear, I've said before that I understand that these CMs can't know everything, but its just frustrating when you call, and you know more than them! Guess I'll have to call back again tomorrow and hope I get someone who knows what I'm talking about....

Ok, now I'm super bummed. Like I said, I called, and after being on hold for about 15 minutes, she came back for the second time saying that she spoke with Private Dining, and was told that the only place that will do this is V&A. Then she said she spoke with the manager at Sanaa, and she was told no by them as well.


My hopes were so high for this - it would have been awesome.... Any other suggestions to make the dinner extra special????

Any ideas on who does? We have reservations at other restaurants as well, and I could make a reservation at a restaurant if I knew I could get this. Just want something special that my mom can take home with her.

A lot of the signatures will add a line or two to their printed menus (I had one at Flying Fish once) but I do not know how much they will customize it. You ask when you arrive. (I didn't ask, they just did mine with Happy Birthday on it, no name). Coral Reef used to do elaborate personalized menus with photos and other things but that has been discontinued. Sanaa would hand you a menu and then take it back - they wouldn't print one out for each table.

We have menus from Narcoossees for our anniversary with our names and the date printed on it. We told them about it being our anniversary when we arrived so they printed it before they seated us. I hope this works out for you. I'm trying to think of other ideas too. Maybe the map of the parks you can get from the WDW website, perhaps you can personalize that yourself?
