if OT forgive me, i'm @ a deadend trying to figure out exactly what i bought; orginal thread getting buried on CB

picked up 2 sericels/serigraphs/whatevers;), obviously reproductions/not original artwork/cel from movies, etc.; from an online auction house/ebay few years back @ what i thought was a bargin (since i like them lol)

Was hoping someone could identify them by these pics (also a Donald Duck in similiar pose)

Problem is, i've gone online, asked the artists who you can find @ WDW art store, checked out tomars (sp?) etc....nobody has ever seen these before.

do know there are lots of unauthorized/fakes floating around, wouldn't break my heart if they were.

The are obviously old & matting is "rough" to say the least; cel is intact.

The only thing i've found any remote possibility are souvieneers they used to sell on main street in DL & WDW in the 70's.

Was hoping that someone would recognize from these pics (didn't post the matching Donald Duck)

appears to be cellophane with drawing inked on it, placed over a colored background

the description sounds like a cell (of course sericel, not production ;) ). is it numbered tho?
maybe cross post on the budget board also.
:)

no number in evidence, leading me to think it was mass produced since donald duck is in the same pose/same background

Hi! Really cute Mickey cell......I'd have picked it up too if it was a bargain!

It says right on the front that it's a "reproduction" and I don't believe the paper is old, it's just made to look and feel old, exactly what they intended the piece to represent, an "original" old piece. I'm 100% sure they were mass produced and meant to be souvenirs.
I'm thinking it's probably from the 1980's but could be as early as some you found from the 70's.

I'm a little confused as to what you're actually asking in "identifying" them....are you wondering what cartoon they're from? They aren't unauthorized nor are they fakes but neither are they originals...LOL does this help at all?

sorta:rotfl: ; i'm trying to pin down where/when they were sold, specifically if they were the ones offered in the Main Street stores (both in DL/WDW) in the 70's and whether there may be a source out there to buy more of the same/sim. charactars?

i agree that they were probably made in large quantities, just odd not to have seen any up for sale since i purchased these a couple years ago...you'd think they'd crop up on eBay.:confused3

Your thread was moved to the DIS Collectors Board and I have replied there. Here is a link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23069542#post23069542

It appears that you have a serigraph, which is an image printed on a cel. It is a nice piece sold at the parks a number of years ago. I've not seen those for quite awhile.

At one time, Disney sold production cels (cels actually photographed for use in an animated film) at both DL and WDW. Most were from the Art Corner at DL, but some were also sold at WDW. Disney's films from Beauty and the Beast on are all computer colored, so no cels exist for any of the feature films since The Little Mermaid. Some TV programs are still hand painted and have been available.

Enjoy your artwork! :)
