I am a new vegan and training for this Princess Half. Was wondering if anyone had any great tips on what they eat (vegan suggestions) before and after running, also any great vegan running blogs out there you'd like to share?

Thanks

ME! I did the Donald last January, and went vegan last March. I'm currently training for a non-Disney half in February, so I'm only up to 6 mile for my long runs.

I've always eaten Clif bars or Luna bars pre-run, that's the only thing I can stomach during exercise. Obviously gel blocks are not vegan, but I haven't looked into GU yet because I just haven't done long enough runs.

I eat beans pretty much every day, lots and lots of veggie, pasta maybe twice a week, and PB toast for breakfast. I don't do faux meat or tofu.

I'm running significantly faster since going vegan. I haven't noticed any problems with fatigue thus far.

My favorite vegan blogs for recipes is www.ohsheglows.com (everything I've made of hers is outstanding!). She is a runner but mostly blogs about food. For running inspiration, I love www.healthyashley.com <-- she's a marathoner, iron woman, and overall incredible athlete. She was in an accident a few months ago that shattered her hip and she couldn't walk for a few months. She ran for the first time this week and is planning to complete the Disney marathon in January- talk about inspiration!! Oh, I almost forgot www.nomeatathlete.com ! He's long time vegetarian, but went vegan a few months ago. He documented his journey to Boston qualifying and has great running advice, along with quite a few fun recipes.

I love talking about veganism, so feel free to PM me with any specific questions :)

You are awesome, thanks for the links and suggestions. Haven't tried the Luna bars and you're right I'm definitely faster since going vegan :)

I'm also a vegan, 5 years old, average about 30 miles per week running. I run to stay fit for surfing...do a bit of cycling too.

Pre-run, I rarely eat preferring an empty stomach. Rarely I will have a banana. I am a beach runner...high humidity and heat...so find that almost anything makes it hard.

Great to find some fellow vegans and runners around here!

I am a new poster so cannot add a link. epicureanvegan.com

I'm not vegan, but I can highly recommend Lara Bars! They're terrific!

I rarely eat myself, but I may have a scoop of peanut butter unless I'm running more than 8 or more miles, then I'll eat toast ,banana and a few sips of juice

A good vegetarian blog is www.dailygarnish.com. She just had a baby so a lot of her posts have been about being a new mom lately, but she's run 5 marathons, so you can look back in her archives to find information on that. A lot of the recipes she develops are vegan - try the black bean burgers. They are delicious!

I'll second the recommendation for www.nomeatathlete.com, but I can't get on board with healthyashley.com. Not my cup of tea.

I should also add www.peasandthankyou.com - I'm not a fan of her writing style (very preachy and a little too cutesy for my taste), and it's not a running blog, but the recipes that she develops (all vegan) are DELICIOUS. I've tried maybe 10-15 of her recipes and only found one that I didn't like so far.
