Any USAA members out there? What are you paying for car insurance?

No information to say. We don't know where you live, what you drive, and your driving record. But if that is $170 a month, that doesn't seem out of line to me.

^^What PP said...

Details please....

We also need to know what your insurance limits are? Minimum for your state or higher?

Sorry, here is more info.

I live in San Antonio, drive a 2018 Volvo XC60, I had one ticket on my record from several years ago that just dropped off so it shouldn't be on my record any longer and making my premium higher.

My deductible is $500/occurrence
Collison is $500/occurrence
$25k per accident under/uninsured motorist coverage
$100,000/$300,000 uninsured/underinsured
Bodily Injury $100,000/$300,000
Property Damage $100,000
PIP $5,000/ per person
No Medical Payments Coverage
Yes Accident Forgiveness
Yes Towing & Labor
No Ride Share Gap

My thought would be to get some quotes for the same coverage and see where it takes you. The ticket may still be a factor on your current insurance.

You also only have 1 car. Deductions happen with multiple cars and multiple policies such as homeowners, or other policies sold by your insurer. You may consider shopping for all your needs to see what it does for you.

edit: you could also call USAA and ask them to reevaluate your coverage.

If that’s your monthly payment for insurance based upon the criteria you provided, that seems reasonable.

My coverage is almost exactly the same as yours and I pay $105 per month for 3 cars - full coverage on all 3. We have a program though work where they can deduct preimums directly from my paycheck so that lowers my cost along with a multi plan discount for having homeowners insurance with the same company. If your rate is $170 per month I would call around.

it is very easy these days to get quotes online. In fact, companies liek Progressive will give you the exact quote several major insurance companies will charge you - they have it down almost to the dollar. Only downside is a credit check is required and some personal info, followed by a bombardment of directed advertising. If a few hundred a month is worth that (it would be worth it to me), you should get quotes.

We have 2 cars insured with USAA in Southern CA with MUCH higher liability limits ($1M per accident) than that and we pay $160/month. Our deductible is $1000 for each car/occurrence. We also have renters insurance with them and that gives us a multi policy discount. I don't know...$170/mo for one car seems high. Our 2 cars are a 2017 and a 2007. Both Hondas. We don't have the towing and labor because we have AAA which is far better coverage/benefits at about the same monthly cost.

We have had zero tickets and zero insurance claims in the last 20 years.

I just found out why. >:( I have a driving ticket from 2017 that I thought dropped off and it didn’t. I won’t see the premium decrease until July 2023 renewal. That seems forever away!

Bummer, but that makes sense.

I feel like I'm paying way too much at $170. I only have one vehicle. Thoughts?
I have USAA (also in Texas) for my 2013 Volvo sedan & that's about what I'm paying. USAA gives great customer service when you need it and that's more important than a cheap premium imo. Go to a defensive driver class & get a small discount for that. Also go over your policy with them, and tweak little things like the type of rental car you get when your car is getting covered damage repair: I saved a few bucks by downgrading to an economy rental car on the policy.

There are other available perks with USAA, too. I buy my travel insurance through the Travel Deals section of their website. It's via a 3rd party linked to them but it's good insurance (I've had to make a few claims & it was smooth each time) and not too expensive.

This is why if you get a ticket that has points attached, you should fight it in court. Yes, you will probably end up paying it anyway. Guilty and paying a ticket is one thing. Guilty and paying a ticket with the points dropped is another. The ticket itself should indicate if there are points for the offense.

But very often, part of what will happen is that the points get dropped by the judge. This makes a huge difference in your insurance rate. Just an example, 3 points on a 10-20 over the limit ticket can double your insurance.

And it does take time and may cost an appearance by a traffic attorney. You can also go it alone in court. The object is to protect your insurance rates.

I'd really consider $1,000 deductible. It will save you a ton in premiums. We bought a new Toyota in July and Toyota Financial requires no more than a $500 deductible. I went round and round over it, so of my 4 cars that is the only one with less than a $1,000 deductible, and the only car since 1982 with that low a deductible. That has saved me thousands in premiums over the years, far more than the addition $500 I would have to shell out if I had a claim.

$64 per month Washington DC. One car. Comprehensive. 500k liability, 50k property, same on underinsured and uninsured motorists, 1k deductible, actual car value replacement (probably like 5k)

You are paying a outrageous price. I live in New Jersey and New Jersey is high and I pay that for 2 cars with collision. 500 deductible and pretty good amount of coverage. My wife and I have perfect driving record thou.

I have USAA. I pay $169 a month for 3 vehicles with a $500 comp and collision deductible. I have $1 million on most my coverages. I think yours seems high. But I am in Montana so it is probably cheaper than in the big city.

I haven't had a ticket for over 20 years but when I was younger I had many. Insurance companies go by the date the ticket actually posted to the DMV, not the date the ticket was issued or paid. In NJ that was approx 6 months after the ticket was issued. Maybe this has become faster in recent years.

Another thing to consider is taking an online defensive driving course. It gives a small discount for 3 years. Well, it does in NJ but not every state. Dh's employer provides it for him but I buy one through GEICO and make our young adult kids take one too. Well, ds24 is not willing to do it again since his discount expired, but that's on his wallet, not mine. Ds20 has a little 2-seat convertible so he's always wanting to lower his rates and is willing to take the course.
It is tailored to the driver's age. I noticed for our kids it spent a lot more time talking about distracted driving due to friends in the car and cell phones. It also spent more time than mine talking about alcohol.

Wow, the price has gone up. It is usually $19.99 and I got ds20's last one for only $11.99 on sale.
I would first check to see if this will actually help you before buying as the rules vary a lot per state. Some only apply it for a court-ordered DD course. Some only for age 50+.

I know my 22 year old son has USAA and I think he pays about $150/month. He drives a 2016 Kia Optima. He may also have renters insurance on there but not positive.

in FL we pay $260/mth for 2 cars, full coverage. It has just gone up and up each year. FL is terrible for car accidents though so I get it. When we lived in IN 8 yrs ago, it was $75/mth for the same coverage and went to $165/mth the second we moved to FL.

We have a $500 deductible and it only saves us $6 if we go to $1k so not going to do that.
