Just wanted to know if anyone knew the status of this. Heard about it on the May cruise and my DH hopes it's all situated for our next May cruise!

Rumor I heard from a pretty reliable source tells me late 05 or early 06 it should be up and running. You should be good to go in May.

That's great news!!!

I'm sure they will have it ready in time for the double stop cruises which start in May '06. With two days on the island you have time for doing extra things like this. I can't wait to try it.

Stingray City is actually in Grand Cayman. It's a sandbar that you take a smaller boat out to and get into the water with the stingrays. From what I've read, the sandbar was a place where the fishermen used to go to clean their catch. This attracted the stingrays and they got accustomed to an easy feed so always returned. Now that Grand Cayman has excursions to Stingray City, the stingrays are happy little campers. Not really little, the females are about 5' across. We did this on our May cruise and it was an absolutely incredible experience. At first, I was apprehensive but once I saw how gentle these magnificent creatures were, I loved it. Anyway...to make a short story long, apparently Disney is "building" a Stingray City off Castaway Cay. As the adage goes, "If you build it, they will come!" I can't wait to swim with the stingrays again.

Darn...I was hoping it would be done by the time I cruise. Guess this coming October would be pushing it. Guess I'll just have to cruise again....

Hugs,

There is an excursion in Nassau that takes you to Blackbeard's Island. Cost is about $40.00. There you are in a closed in lagoon area in about 6 feet of water. You enter from the beach area, so you don't have to jump ship to the sandbar. This part always worried, not knowing the depth, just a tad fearfull of the water)

I would persume that Castaway Cay's will be simular. Also at BlackBeard there a beach to relax on a meal is provided. I did this once before on a RCCL excursion (it cost more and there was no meal) looking forward to my trip next week. I rate this one the best value for excursions in Nassau!

My DH is a snorkeler, so when I told him the news that word has it it'll be ready in time for our cruise, he was nothing short of psyched! I'll be laying on the white sandy beach and he'll be in with the stingrays! :sunny:

Not for sure where it will be built. My guess is they could use the lagoon area to the right of the tram lane just past the bridge with the "Welcome To Zcastaway Cay" sign. I guess it would either have to be there or off Serenity Bay and I don't see that as asn ideal spot because it woiuld loose it's seclusion feel.

I am so happy to hear that I'll be able to swim with the stingrays on our cruise next year!! (Assuming of course that it's operational by next August).

On last year's cruise no one else wanted to do Stingray City with me, so I didn't do it. And next year's cruise has the double stop at Castaway Cay and NO Grand Cayman stop, so I thought I wouldn't be able to swim with the 'rays.

THANKS, DCL, for adding this to an already-beautiful and fun island! :sunny:

any hope this will be available in November 2005???

This sounds interesting! We're going on the Western in Dec. '05. Is this a DCL tour or something else? If something else, can anyone point me to more info?

Thx in advance.

We booked our excursion through Disney but I've heard a lot of people have done it on their own through Captain Marvin, I believe it is. We just booked all of our excursions at one time through Disney. It was a blast! The stingrays look really scary and intimidating but they are very gentle creatures and it truly is such a thrill. Not something you get to do every day!
