I saw an article over on Jim Hill's site about a possible name change for the studios. Has anyone heard whether disney is going to rename the studios theme park on June 27th of this year when the agreement with MGM expires?

As far as I knew it was pretty much already changed to "The Disney Studios" and "MGM" as already removed. I dont remember when I was there last if the change was there or not but as far as I knew, everyone referred to is as the Disney Studios now and had no mention of MGM.

I figured it would revert back to just The Disney Studios, but there was also a mention of a possible extension of the agreement between Disney and Sony.

Interesting. It's funny because I never refer to it as the Disney Studios. I always just say, MGM. Anyone else do this? ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I call it "The Studios" (that's what most CM's call it that work there.)

Us too, It never seemd quite right to call it by another companies name...

We call it MGM, even though Disney now calls is The Disney Studios (at least during our Dec 2004 trip). I just can't get used to the change...it's not catchy or something.

Was just there this past week and they had plenty of items for sale using a new (to me) "Walt Disney Studios" logo which was an outline of Mickey with a director's megaphone. Worked for Paris, I guess.

Another MGM-er here! ;)

Well as far as I know, the park signs and the Disney World website still refer to it as "Disney-MGM Studios". I don't know if that will be changing- maybe they're very gradually trying to change it over, although to me the official change would be when they change the park signs and references in pamphlets and websites. To me Disney-MGM Studios makes more sense than The Disney Studios, since Disney fired all the animators, and there is no working animation studio there anymore, but in contrast there are plenty of references to MGM movies in the Great Movie Ride and other attractions.

Like many, I also refer to it as "MGM". But on the new vacation planning DVD, "MGM" is never mentioned. It is always refered to as "Disney Studios".

We have always called it MGM, but I guess we are going to have to change.

To me and my DH it will always be MGM. :cheer2: So even if it changes it will always be MGM to us. :cloud9: And as long as we both know where we are going that is the only thing that counts. :chat: However 25 years later we might be looked at kinda strangely when asking info on MGM will definately date ourselves :goodvibes .

With the recent trend of Disney animated movies, Disney/Pixar Studios wouldn't be a bad idea!

I don't think that would work out too well since Disney and Pixar are about to end their relationship. It seems as though the head of Disney, Michael Eisner, said some things that made Steve Jobs, the head of Pixar, very angry. As a result, Pixar told Disney where they could shove it. I believe there will be one more movie made under their current contract. After that Pixar will be teaming up with a different company to distribute its movies.
