I just watched "Why did I get married Too" and was again reminded about how talented Tyler Perry really is. The guy has an amazing way of cutting through the layers of cushion on top of an issue, especially ugly ones, and finding some small kernel of Grace in it. I love that about his work, there is so much compassion in everything he does and he always looks at issues no-one else will go near.

I don't know what else he might be working on but whatever it is, I'm sure it will be fantastic!

I really liked the second one too ;) I was glad it didn't fall short. I really enjoyed the first one but this one really gripped you. You could just see Janet's heart breaking as she did that scene after her real life brothers death, my heart ached for her.

You know I never thought I would be a Tyler Perry fan but that man can make a great chick flick, who knew! It really makes me want to see For Colored Girls.

I am a fan, but I think I love the plays better. The plays are not "sugar coated" and true. The Theater version gets a bath, scrubbed downed a bit and then dried off before it hits the big screen. The family that Prey's really hit home with me.

The one line I will never forget, is when Kathy Baker asked Alfre Woodard if she was living or existing. Took a minute for me to realize what she was saying, but I get where she was going with it. It still rings true to this day:angel:

I can watch his movies every now and then, but I REFUSE to watch his sitcoms. Hate them, terrible actors!

I'm a fan of the movies. Not the plays or the sitcoms. I really enjoyed The Family That Preys; I love Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates and I have always had a serious crush on Cole Hauser.

The best I could call it would be a guilty pleasure. It's melodrama and lowest-common-denominator morality play storytelling. Or obvious sitcom humor.

That being said, I have enjoyed a few of his movies. Why Did I Get Married had moments, especially Shelia's story, but the second one looked too awful to even consider.

I can definitely respect Tyler Perry's head for business, though. That man has built an empire, and someone's buying!

I also would say he's got a gift for showcasing great actors and actresses.

I always thought he was fairly popular... Hmmm, guess I was wrong:upsidedow

I agree he's no Shakespeare but I tend to like the undercurrent of what he tries to get across. Mostly the idea of personal responsibility for where we all end up,that and trying to forgive for your own sake. I just like that:goodvibes

I love Tyler Perry. I watch his movies and his sitcoms. That being said, I had to go and Google the dislike here.

It seems he did a movie "For Colored Girls" that was slammed viciously in the media recently. Not sure what this is about. I guess I will have to do some reading here.

I see it was piece of serious work and Perry was bashed for taking it on as he is either loved/hated. Interesting movie. Might have to look for it.

Saw the movie and thought it was great! The title gets many people thinking that it is a movie for "colored"girls, but many have never bothered to go beyond that. The movie is based on a book and in the book it has 8 different "colors" of girls who has their story laid out for all to see. One color was red, and I thought it was a great story. Not something to see with your husband or SO (male) but as girls only type of thing. It basically details the hardship of each women using colors of the rainbow. It was DEEP!
