Any truth to this?

Hey folks. A very reliable source, who has also been a DVC member for 8 or 9 years now, told me this and I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this. He said if we were on vacation as regular guests at WDW, and we on the spot bought into the DVC, they may actually offer to pay our hotel cost for our existing stay, or if it's paid for then they will reimburse us. We will be at AKL for 13 days from Sept.2 through the 14th and we are thinking of just possibly buying into the BCV while there. Our friend is pretty well informed usually, but I'm pretty skeptical of this one particular thing. We didn't have a chance to really finish the conversation, but will do so when I see him again in a couple days, maybe there was some detail he didn’t' mention yet or something. He did specifically say to go at the very beginning of your stay and buy in right away, so I don't know if maybe he meant you would be moved over to the BCV from your original resort, thus the cost of buying in would sort of cover your stay there, and they would reimburse you for the cost of your original hotel reservation. Anyway, it almost sounds too good to be true, can anyone comment on this? Thanks in advance.

Someone posted on another board that they were going to WDW on some "stay 3 nights get 1 free" deal at AKL based on agreeing to take the DVC tour. This is the first time I had ever heard of an on-site stay program for DVC. It's possible that they are offering some new incentives but, if the do really exist, they are not being widely advertised.

YOU GOT IT!!!!!!:):)

As I recall YEARS ago, DVD would reimburse you for part of your stay at a WDW resort if you purchased while staying there. However, with the success of DVC, they haven't needed to reintroduce such a promotion.......:)

Yes, Eros is right. This was an old emination of MB(magical beginings).

I would guess...5-6 years ago.

Thanks for the info folks, I appreciate the quick responses. Yeah, I'm sure that old Magical Beginnings must be what he was thinking of since he's been in DVC since before we met him back in 1996. Good to know it WAS something they did offer at one point, probably what was going on when he first joined. Thnx again.

Hi Mirth,

Last March we were going to but into DVC and they offered the following if we signed up while AT WDW......

1) A credit toward your down payment - based on $5.00 a point

2) Vacation at a select Walt Disney World Resort Hotel of your choice for XXX nights.

This included a list of Deluxe and moderate WDW resorts and depeneded on how many points you bought - see below

150-209 points - 5 nights
210-259 points - 7 nights
260-309 points - 7 + 3* nights
310-359 points - 7 + 5* nights
360 or more - 7 + 7* nights

*this represents Two complimentary stays in the increments noted.

Hope this helps you out. We are kicking ourselves that we didn't buy in at that time. We are thinking we may join on our trip on March. Also, they may have offered us these incentives because we mentioned my husband's brother & wife had reffered us.....maybe not though.... Either way it seemed like a pretty good deal to us but we just didn't bite the bullet........

Heather is correct. Since BCV had not been completed yet, new buyers could accept free nights at WDW resorts or MB:) :) :) .....

I also read on another board about the stay 3 nites get 1 free deal at AKL if you took a DVC tour. Maybe that is still going on, it never hurts to ask.

FWIW...

I recall, years back when I took a tour (but did not buy), they offerred to apply most (or all) of my hotel fees to the down payment of the DVC.. They would move us over to the DVC resort (at that time OKW) and we would immediately begin using points.

HeatherAnne,
That promotion was offered to everyone who bought before June 1 at BCV, and it also included 3 free nights if you bought 100-149 pts. It ended June 1, if not earlier, due to its success. Many of us bought then because of the incentives, but also because the price went up to $80 a pt on June 1.:(

When we purchased in April 2001, this option was available:
(1) contact your DVC rep in advance to let them know of your visit to WDW
(2) book a cash stay at a DVC resort directly from Disney and a room only - no tickets (not through a travel agent or as a package)
(3) upon arrival, go to DVC & make your purchase
(4) DVC would then convert your stay from cash to points and give you paperwork
(5) bring the paperwork to your resort

I don't know if you can still do this.

A friend of mine looked into DVC recently (after the presale of BCV free night stay offer). She was offered AKL at a reduced rate, I think $129 night, for 3 nights, plus 1 free night if she would take the tour during her stay. This was to entice her to come to WDW, it isn't something you could do while you are already there. She told them she didn't like AKL and asked if she could stay at BC, they told her yes, she could get BC for $169 night for 3 nights and her 4th night free.

In '96 they offered up to a $1000 of what we paid for our stay that week as a downpayment towards our purchase. You could only get the deal if you were still checked in, once you checked out you lost the deal.

Peterd, we got a similar deal in 97 when we bought. We were staying at the Polynesian and a portion of what we spent to stay there was applied to our downpayment. No reimbursement, no cash back. On our later add-ons, all we got was Magical Beginnings where we sold back our first year's points. When we bought the BCV, we got the $5 back per point since we bought before June 1. We don't get our first points until Sept 02 (but we have already used them).
