Any truth to 'Mission Space Sickness?'

My 80yo Mom & I rode this in December and had absolutley no bad effects from the ride. I actually felt "quesier" prior to the ride when I was standing in the queue right next to the rotating space station scenery. I rarely experience motion sickness (the exception is during particularly rough airline flights). But that space staion did a number on my brain/inner ear communitcation. Once I turned my back to the station, I was fine.

While my two oldest sons were fine, it absolutely wiped my husband out so much he went back to the hotel. He was done for the day until evening. He still can't explain it, but he was a mess. The funny part is we had bought Candlelight Processional tickets, and my husband was sooooo greatful that we did not hear Gary Sinese as the narrator (he began the next day) because he thought the sound of his voice would make him ill again! :crazy2: :crazy2:

Because I had read about people getting sick on M:S on here, I was hesitant to ride it. In addition, before going into the capsules, they have all this dramatized video saying "now is your chance to leave if you don't think you're capable of the mission," etc. But I rode it and loved it! If you immerse yourself in the experience and imagine that you are going into space rather than spinning, I think you are less prone to sickness. I was with 3 others and came off feeling completely fine. However, two members had slight neck pain and headaches for a little while. The other didn't feel well at all. Regardless, none of them were seriously affected by the ride. I think everyone should give it a try b/c it truly is an incredible experience-- I know I will be doing it more than once. I agree that those who are worried should ride near the end of the day so that their days won't be ruined if they do end up feeling sick afterwards.

I didn't have trouble with it the first time. The second time I started to feel extremely dizzy and disoriented. I don't think it was the ride, though, because someone else in my group felt the same way before we went on the ride, so I think I was just plain sick. The ride is amazing, though. Really feels like you're flying!

I recently rode it for the first time. I was OK through the launch part but started to feel a little dizzy when it got to the Mars part. I was a little disoriented for about 2 hours after. I tried it out, I doubt I will ride it again. I've never been real fond of simulator rides, I hated Back to the Future.

As a person who NEVER gets sick, I was wishing I had taken Bromine prior to this ride. It is an awesome ride but I could not fully enjoy it because I wish telling myself not to get sick. I am glad it was early and my stomach was empty. And I am sure my cabin mates were equally happy.

I got really sick after riding it, for probably 2-3 hours. I can handle roller coasters fine, but don't do well on spinning things like Tea Cups and the Gravitron (that should have given me a clue, but I wanted to ride anyway). I did all the precautionary stuff....I took travel sickness pills 1/2 hour before riding, didn't eat for several hours prior, kept my head back against the headrest, kept my eyes straight ahead...and it still didn't help me. As soon as the ride began, the screen appeared to be "spinning" to me and I couldn't get focus for the first 10 seconds or so. By that point, I knew ot was too late - I was sick and tears were literally streaming down my cheeks (not from crying - which I did feel like doing - but from the spinning motion causing my eyes to water). I kept yelling out at my friend and asking her if it was almost over....that being said and now that I've probably scared people, I think it depends on the individual. If you've never riden it, ride it at least once for the experience. Regardless, this is the closest you will ever come to experiencing going into space and to me, it was worth it. I'll never do it again but had I known how sick I was going to get, I would have still riden it once just to say I rode and experienced it. It did have awsome visual effects.

I cannot do the tea cups because of the spinning but I did MS and it did not bother me. since you are inside you cannot tell what is going on. Just do what they tell you, wwatch the screen and keep your head back. It was a good ride.

I was hesitant to ride MS but my DH talked me into it. I cannot handle rides that spin. I was so focused on looking straight ahead, not closing my eyes or looking to my side, that I didn't really enjoy the ride. I felt a little queasy after I got off and I had to go back to the hotel and sleep for a couple of hours, then I was fine. I won't be riding MS again, but I'm glad that I tried it.

As a child I threw up all over my friend on the scrambler at the fair...I have never (NEVER) liked spinning rides - and have shunned them since I was 11 or 12.

Fast forward to me trying to talk my 7 year old out of M:S a couple weeks ago at Epcot.

He wasn't going to have anything to do with "NO."

So I broke out in a cold sweat and "boarded the capsule."

It was THE most AMAZING ride I have ever been on.

Mind you - I followed the directions exactly and it's true - the visuals trick your mind into thinking your doing something your not.

I was yelling and whooping and hollering - even my son thought I was nuts.

We rode it twice and the second time I could feel "a bit" of the circular motion - but just a bit.

I highly recommend it for all the spinning ride wimps like me!

when my hubby got off the ride he said there was one guy already hurling and another one running on his way too.....

I must agree with most of the people here. I glad that I rode it to see what it was like but I will not be riding it again. I felt really funky for about 2 or 3 hours after getting off of it. I guess it all depends on your level of tolerance. I would try it once to say that you did.

:smooth:

LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS RIDE! MS was one of the most favorite rides that we went on. We rode it twice. It was an amazing experience. I did have a slight headache for about 45 minutes afterwards, but I would definitely do it again. My DS 8 and DD 6 loved the ride too.
