I asked this on the budget board but thought I cast a wider net and post here.

So I'm planning a trip to Paris for May of this year. :cool1: I've been researching and researching but I can't decide to use a TA or not. My big problem is that the only agent I have is through Liberty Travel and they have such a small selection of hotels to choose from (none of which are on my list).
Also one other agent seems to really push "Tour" groups like globus. I'm an independant/adventourous traveler, I hate "tours" with a passion.

So has anyone used Orbitz or expedia for trips? Would you stick with a TA?
This will be my first trip.

I always use the tripadvisor website. (btw, I think I'm going to Paris in October!!!!!). They have forums for anywhere in the world you'd want to travel to, with travelers' reviews on hotels, restaurants, etc. It's good info to start with.

I think that was the problem, I got all these great hotels off of tripadvisors and m TA is so limited.

I would book through the hotel's own website. Although I've used orbitz and Expedia tons to book airfare and hotels in North America, my foreign language skills wouldn't be good enough if something went wrong in Europe. I would do initial research through comparable sites though.
