Would you travel 7 weeks after a trach placement? Dd is scheduled for adenoid removal on March 14 and we are very strongly considering a trach at the same time. We're scheduled to arrive on May 8th.

Doc already approved travel given that there are no complications, but I'm thinking I may be getting in over my head. Now more than ever I want to get another trip in w/ her.

Not a trach mom but a mom of a very complicated child. Question: Just a trach or trach with vent? If it is with vent I would say there is a ton of training etc to do and I am not sure if travel that fast would be wise, however, if it is trach only. I think it would be ok.

I have a trach, and by 7 weeks post, some of the extra secretions that occur from placement should have subsided. You'll want to feel comfortable though, and will need to have a suction machine at all times, even bringing it onto the rides. I would keep an open mind and see how you/she/the Dr. feels closer to the date of travel.---Kathy

The biggest issue will be your level of comfort with trach care. If one has been recommended then I am betting your dd will be more stable than previously. If you have questions, I would be happy to try to answer as both my kids have trachs. Karen
