So, I was reading a thread recently that talked about the chicken dinner at Plaza Inn and the fact that you can ask for all white meat, or buy the items a la cart. It made me start to wonder if there are other places in the parks you can customize your meal? For example at the Jolly Holiday Bakery you can get the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup combo. Can you substitute the chicken noodle soup if you don't like tomato?

It's been almost a year since I've been so this may not still be the case but you could get a corn dog at the Red Wagon without the chips for a little less but at Corn Dog Castle in DCA they didn't allow that.

Does anyone know of other tips or tricks in flexibility of ordering food that is different from the listed menus?

We've found that most places, TS and CS, at DLR are willing to work with you within their limits. Not every place is going to be able to be as flexible as every other place, but we've never had a problem asking for special requests. The number one tip I know of is to be polite and gracious when making your request, to ask for a lead when necessary (because a new CM may not know what to do), and to make all requests with a smile.
You can still order the corn dog without chips for a lower price. Don't know for sure about substituting other soup at Jolly Holiday, but I'm sure you wouldn't be the first to make the request.

I don't know about substituting another soup but you can definitely order the grilled cheese sandwich on its own. It's something like $5, great deal for Disneyland, and is one of my favorite mini-meals/snacks!

I also like to order the breakfast burrito from Tomorrowland Terrace/Galactic Grill without the chorizo. I'm vegetarian and it is so nice to be able to get a filling, savory breakfast item. Plus they make it fresh when you order!

You can order just a grilled cheese sandwich or sub the soup or get a side salad. There isn't a price break with the Jolly Holiday combo, you'd pay the same price if you just ordered the sandwich and a side of soup.

You can get just sides or add extra sides at most CS places. I get just sides at Flo's instead of the awful veggie tater bake. You can also get mozzarella sticks, on their own or as a combo with fries at Stage Door.

My best advice is just to ask the CM "Is it possible...." with a smile, politeness and a please and thank you.

If they CAN do it, they most likely will do it for you. If they can't do it the way you're hoping, ask if they have any suggestions and tell them why you want what you want so they can help you better. EG your child will only eat chicken noodle soup (kids are picky and DL foodservice staff know this very well). If they can't swap soups in that combo configuration, they may be able to sell you the items separately, or as part of another combo or something.

Just explain what you're hoping for and be polite. CMs are great at helping and will do their best to make your requests happen.

My best advice is just ask politely for what you want. Most substitutions, exceptions can & will be made. There are exceptions to this pre-made items such as some salads. Or there me be an extra wait for the special order.

Thanks for the info guys. Maybe I'll even see if they can do the Monte Cristo with no swiss cheese. I've always wanted to try it but don't like swiss.
