Any Tips for RnR?

Hi, All! We are heading back to the world in about 8 weeks. I have almost an anxiety attack when I ride RnR. The takeoff feels like it's knocking the air out of me and I feel like I am going to pass out. Then, I am fine and the rest of the ride is awesome. Any helpful hints to get through the take off would be much appreciated! My DH will not ride it if I don't and I don't want him to miss out because of me being a scaredy cat.
 
I love that ride, but have the same problem as you do. On takeoff, I always close my eyes and push myself as hard as I can into the back of the car. Almost as if you are pushing yourself away from the chest protector that keeps you in the vehicle. It helps to keep my body really stable. Hope that helps! :goodvibes
 
If your arms are long enough, push against the back of the seat in front of you during the ride. It really smooths out the ride and gives you a solid feeling.
 
I know this is going to sound nuts, but I find that the front seat is the least intense on take-off.

Try to envision what I mean. In the front seat, when you launch, you are immediately in the dark tunnel. That way, you don't feel how fast you are going. The times I sat toward the back of the train, I felt like I was going towards that tunnel entrance at a zillion miles an hour! Also, the end cars of any rollercoaster experience what is called a "whip effect", where you sort of snap around corners and loops faster, or at least it feels that way.

When I am waiting for that green light, I face straight ahead, close my eyes and breathe deeply,... :scared1:
 

The launch lasts 2.7 seconds, I tried to concentrate on counting to three in my head. Then I knew the worst was over (and I actually loved the rest of the ride!).

P.S. I'm a total thrill-ride chicken, so getting me on RnR was a miracle. :scared1:
 
This may be a simplistic approach, but this is what I do on RnRc and Mission Space (orange). I breath deeply through my mouth. I find that that gets rid of the feeling that I am breathless and expands my chest so that I don't have that crush feeling.

That may not be what you are experiencing, but if it helps...go for it. :)
 
I'm not a ride person (I firmly believe you can enjoy the parks without going on the thrill rides :)) but I went with a family that went on ALL the rides and I didn't want to be left on so I went on RnR and LOVED IT!! And, I don't really like rides - I get major anxiety attacks in anticipation, dont like the feeling in my stomach, etc, but I had no problem on RnR and would definitely go on it again. It's probably my favorite ride in the disney parks

What I did that definitely helped was to MAKE SURE that your head was against the back of the seat...I'm pretty sure I pushed back into it as much as I could. My friends dad told me to do this; he mentioned that he got whiplash the last time because he didn't have his head against the back of the seat. Also, (you may not have to try to do this - you probably will on your own :) ) screaming during the launch really helped me - it didn't make me feel like I was getting knocked out or that my breath was getting taken away. It felt like I had control of my breathing and how that felt, if that makes any sense.

I almost chickened out, but I'm glad I went through with it! :)
 
I have the best luck when I take a deep breath during the final countdown and then let it out slowly during the launch. I always look like a doofus in the ride photo, but it makes that first bit way smoother!
 
I have the same feeling but I've found screaming on "blast off" really helps, don't forget to keep your head pressed back.

Does make for some very interesting photo's!!

Seems I'm the opposite of most. I LOVE the launch and hate the rest of it.

I did think it was funny some years ago when riding with my sister in law. When the ride was over she said to me, "I thought we were supposed to go upside down." I told her that we did. And she said, "Oh, I had my eyes closed for the whole thing." I have wanted to try that strategy but am too afraid I'll end up sick.
 
I completely agree with the other posters about keeping the head back on the head rest. But to help wit the anxiety I completely agree with Sunkissed that screaming helps relieve that anxiety.
My DD had lots of anxiety with any roller coaster and screaming really helped her release those fears and now she loves roller coasters. Plus, when you are screaming, you are releasing the air yourself...... it may help rid the feeling of getting the air knocked out of you.

dw and i don't ride when we go with out kids BUT when our 2 kids go with us im my ds ride Buddie.
i don't have a problem with the ride my problem is the wait in the car before takeoff.its the pined in feeling.i just try to relax and breath threw it.if the ride ever broke down when we are sitting in the take off position i would go nuts.
 
Don't hold your breath during takeoff!! I find it is much better when I breathe, lol. Never thought about screaming tho will have to try that.
 
Focus on your breathing. I don't think I took a breath the whole time. I was so dizzy.
 
Concentrate on the pose for you picture. Our family agrees on a pose each time we ride and you need to hold the pose through the launch to get a good photo. Maybe concentrating on something else will get rid of the anxiety. Plus checking out the crazy photo at the end is part of the fun for my family. :thumbsup2
