We used the dining plan for the first time on our most recent trip. I can share a couple things that helped us feel we got the most out of it.
* We made advanced reservations for all our table service meals before we left home. We used our guidebook, the Passporter, to decide which places/meals would appeal to our family (DH, DD(7) and DS(5) ).
* Our general plan was to have a snack (granola bar, some fruit, etc.) in our hotel room before we left for the parks each day. We planned to eat our counter service and table service during the day, most typically using the counter service for lunch and table service for dinner. We were fluid in terms of when we used our snack credits. Sometimes we picked something up during the day, e.g., ice cream, but more often than not, we used our snack credits at night, buying snacks for breakfast the following day.
* Because of the age of our children, we tried to book as many character dinners as possible. The advantage was that we met a lot of characters while eating -- this kept the kids occupied during dinner and it allowed us to bypass long lines in the parks for the autographs with the same characters.
* Check your receipt after each usage and be aware of your totals for each category. This way you won't miss out on using any credits coming your way.
* Rely on the CMs for help with questions about getting the most of your plan in terms of food, understanding how many credits you have remaining, etc.
* Enjoy not worrying about the cost of food during your trip. It's all paid for up front, so have fun trying new things or ordering your favorite dishes. I think this was the surprise benefit of the plan for us.
The Dining Plan really enhanced our trip. I hope you and your family have a great time!!
