How early do we need to get a spot, Where's a good place to watch from etc etc. We will spend two days at each park from the 8th of May. We will be a party of two

The best tip would be to enter and win the lottery for a prime viewing spot.

Otherwise, I normally find a spot to either side of the castle. The Japanese locals are very polite and those closer to the front will sit or duck down to allow others behind them a better view. And they don't wave their cameras, phones and tablets wildly in the air above their head either. From memory, I've had my best luck to the right of the castle. And the view is still pretty good, even though it's not "straight on".
