Any Tips for April?

I just realized that I'm about to visit WDW during the one time of year I have never been. We typically go during the summer and traveled in October when the kids were little.

My spring break is normally around Easter - and I refuse to drive to Florida with all the spring breakers (the one year we went to Universal our 8-9 hour trip took 13 hours!!). This year, however, break is late: two weeks after Easter and well after college break crowds and so I am doing Disney.

It's slowly dawning on me that April offers a different experience. I just bought Pirate and Princess tickets :goodvibes :goodvibes and I guess F&G is going on.

So - any advice/hints/suggestions from fellow DVCers that understand the laid back "stop and smell the roses" touring style?

What's the weather like? Are the pools cold?

We visit WDW every April and it is a perfect time to be in Florida! The weather is generally in the mid-80's, very little rain, and no humidity. The pools are fine, and we visit either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach at least once each trip.

Crowds are not too bad - especially if you use Fastpass and are not trying to see everything. If you are going with a laid-back touring style you will be fine - include some early mornings, late evenings with a break in the middle of the day - no problem getting to do everything you want! I'm not at all clear how the early Easter will impact April crowds, but with perfect weather and a relaxed approach it really won't matter......you'll be at WDW!:goodvibes

We typically visit every April. We've found the weather to be perfect most of the time (80s), and the pools equally nice. I do find the parks to be on the busy side.

I'm not sure that you can get much more 'laid back' than us. We rarely attend the parks more than a day or two, and try and enjoy our time as a family without ringing phones, TV, or soccer practice. Instead, it's alot of morning/evening walks, swimming, etc. I especially enjoy getting up early, grabbing my must-read book, and heading for one of the quiet pools. I'm usually the only one there, and I find it to be a little slice of heaven.

Hope you enjoy your trip. I know I'm counting down the days, myself.

The weather is great. Not sure though about the crowds, spring break is different times for different states. We go 4-19 to 4/26. I probably should have chose the last week. Really looking forward to the flower festival!

We are new to April travelers this year too! I have to be honest I am exctieted to be taking our first trip as a family together, but not so excited about the April part. It is Spring break in most of New England. It is going to be crowded! I am planning on Early mornings in the parks and afternoons at the pool then back to the parks in the evenings.
We know it will be busy so we are going to take it easy and try to just enjoy what we can. It isn't our first or last trip so we don't have to do anything really (EXCEPT PLAYHOUSE DISNEY AND DUMBO!) See my signature! Anyway I am hoping for mostly bonding time together in our favorite place. Ask me how it went in May! LOL

Also, the nights can be a little cool. I would bring a windbreaker. Its great to be at the park late though, fantastic evening weather. No bugs, just really refreshing. Again, sure hope the parks are managable. Enjoy, we must compare trip reports!:goodvibes

This trip without the kids we are doing some fun adult stuff and will really take it easy only going to the actual parks for one day. Looking forward to the heat and the evenings believe me are a LOT warmer down there than they are up here in Calgary:thumbsup2 We did find it cool in February though so I think April will be perfecto for us!

F & G - Yes, it's going on, and don't miss it. We are not Flower People, but we now schedule a trip every May because of the weather, crowds, and F&G. Even if you don't like flowers much at all, you'll enjoy F&G. Check the Flower Power concerts -- if you're old enough, you may recognize some of the names!

Weather - Be prepared for either hot or cold. Not COLD cold, but cool.

For example, we're in the middle of a cool snap right now. It only got up to about 75-76 today, and never got above about 73 yesterday. I'm looking at a bike ride on Friday in the mid-70's and about a 15 MPH wind, so it's gruesome right now. ;)

Orlando is somewhat cooler than Miami, because fronts usually make it down about as far as West Palm Beach and then move offshore. So we stay mild when the temps up there plunge into the 50's.

Thanks for all the tips! I was expecting hotter temps - so I'll make sure to pack light jackets. I'm a southern girl - so I don't take off my long sleeves unless it's 80 degrees!

I'm excited about seeing F&G again and just taking it easy - we used to hit the tail end of it when we traveled late May, but I have not seen it in awhile.

April is our fav month to go. The weather is usually beautiful and even if there are lines, people seem to be in much happier spirits than when it is hotter. Warm enough to swim in the day, cool enough for a light jacket at night, not as many thunderstorms as in the summer... Our best trips have been during April! :thumbsup2

This is my first April trip as well as my sis is a teacher and has spring break at the end of April. I am really looking forward to it but it is will be her first time along with her husband and my nephew who'll be four. I really want to make a good first impression and so far we weren't able to get the resort we wanted :sad1: as she let me know in January that she wanted to go in April. SSR will be fine - I just would have preferred my own resort to make a good first impression but what can you do. See you all there!!!

I think it all depends on when in April you are going. Our spring break is always the first full week of April (along with everyone else in West Michigan) and have found WDW to be mildly busy. Maybe towards the end is less busy since most schools are done with breaks.

The weather is great as others have posted. Warm days, cool nights. I think some parks are hit or miss depending on the day of the week. We have seen others from home that said EPCOT was packed and we were at AK and was not busy. Might depend on what is happening locally too.
