Any thoughts on my dd's app for Spring 2020?

@wendow and @720L -- are your girls ready to start their DCP assignments? I can't believe it's January already and the next shift of DCPs are getting ready to start. My daughter just completed her application again today. Here' hoping the 2nd time is the charm for her! She has a slightly broader range of experience at her job so that might help (though I don't think that was a problem the last time she applied). She also has started doing a lot of house sitting. One of her house sitting jobs was 3.5 weeks long and she's done several others that were 4-7 nights. All of those house sitting jobs included taking care of various pets as well. She had no qualms about indicating that she has indeed lived independently. Hopefully that will help with her application. Now the waiting begins..... She follows a DCP recruiter on Twitter and that person already posted today that applications for the Fall Advantage program will be screened/pulled first. My daughter is only applying for the fall program so she already knows it's going to be a few weeks at best until she hears anything. Fingers crossed....

UPDATE: She has already been contacted to do a WBI!!!!!! One hour after she hit "send" on the application, she got the message to do the WBI! To say she's excited is an understatement!!!

I keep seeing things online about the apps dropping for fall 2020 and it's kind of surreal that my dd doesn't need to do that and we don't have to ride that roller coaster for the 4th time lol!

My dd is so excited to begin her CP! She had a Jan 21 check-in date but she has a really good friend that she met through the app process a couple of times ago and that girl got in and they wanted to room together. Her friend could only get a Feb 3 check-in date (which has a different check-out date than the Jan check-ins) and you can only room with same check-out date so long story, my dd switched to the Feb 3rd date as well. SO, she has 3 more weeks! She is having a hard time as other friends are checking in now but she is also Spring Advantage so she has more time in the program overall.

Due to a kind of weird situation, my dd was able to find out her location early (she is at BoG!!) so we are anxiously awaiting where she will live. It's so fun watching all the kids finding out their locations and apartment. The excitement is just contagious!

OMG...I'd be so happy to work at BOG!!! If I got assigned to QS, I think BOG would be one of (if not *the*) best QS to work at. I hope she loves it!!! I can't wait to hear how it goes for her.

So...my daughter was crazy excited about doing the WBI. So because she had done so much research about it for her previous application and because she's been researching again the last few weeks, she felt she was ready to do that already today (she had to do it by Thursday). I thought she should wait a day just to be sure she was prepared, but she has a full day of classes tomorrow and she works on Wednesday so she wanted to do it today. She sat at the kitchen table while I ate dinner and started the interview (she wanted me there in case she didn't understand a question). She seemed like she was flying through the questions -- she was worried about not answering in 20 seconds or less. I was worried she wasn't reading the questions thoroughly/correctly (I'm really not a helicopter parent. lol.) so I told her to start reading the questions out loud and pausing for 2 seconds before answering. That slowed her pace a little bit at least. She finished the WBI in about 20 minutes They said to allow 30 minutes to complete it...so she still probably rushed a bit...but her message at the end of the WBI said they would contact her within 24 hours to set up a phone interview!!!!!! We're so excited!!! I can't believe that right after lunch today she casually sat down to fill out the application thinking it would be weeks until we knew if she moved to the WBI. Here we are 5 hours later and she already knows she's getting a phone interview! And her comment as she rushed out the door to meet friends for dinner... "I really hope I get an offer but if I don't, I made it much further in the process this time and I'm happy about that!"

I know it's not a done deal (and so does she) but she was hired on the spot when she did her face-to-face interview at Starbucks (and has since realized that hiring on the spot is not the norm at her store) and when she interviewed at the local amusement park, she was called 2 hours later to tell her they were interested in her for a different (better) role/job than what she had just interviewed for. So I think she has good interview skills and that makes me feel a little better.

She called her friend who just finished up the Fall DCP and that girl gave her a lot of advice about the phone interview so my daughter said she's going to make some note cards to have setting in front of her for the PI.

My dd also did all the note cards! She made ones that had the more common questions the recruiter might ask and then on the back, wrote down some key words and phrases she wanted to make sure to mention. There were probably 20 of those types. Then she wrote a lot of inspirational sayings like "SMILE!", "Remember WHO you are!", "Make it Happen!". And then she had a bunch of Walt Disney quotes written out lol. She probably went way overboard but it made her feel good so whatever!

She & I also rehearsed a lot. I asked her questions in person and also over the phone to hear how she sounded. She is a happy/smiley kind of kid already so I didn't think 'hearing' her smile over the phone would be an issue but it was harder for her than I thought it would be. Concentrating on giving strong answers changes the way you speak (or at least it did for her!) so I was glad we practiced that so much.

Excited for your dd! She can do this!!

Wow - this is disappointing to hear - the living independently part. My DD21 graduates in May with a Hospitality Management and Spanish major and applied this morning. She couldn't apply yesterday because she was ACTUALLY IN WDW on vacation. She has tons of work experience - housekeeping, front desk, food and beverage and conventions. She has wanted to work for Disney since she has been in 7th grade and has been doing everything to be the perfect package for Disney. BUT she got a free ride for a college 15 minutes from our house and has NOT lived independently. She chose to live at home and save the money. She knew working at Disney wasn't going to make her rich and did not want to have school loans. I sure hope that does not bump her out.

Yes, she applied for Fall Advantage and Fall, AND the professional internships. Her application sat in submission for over a day, so we all got paranoid because people on the Facebook page she watches were already getting callbacks. BUT, yesterday, she did the WBI and has a phone interview on Wednesday. She said she was having lunch with her boyfriend when she received the e-mail for the WBI and she stood up in the restaurant and said, "take me home RIGHT NOW," so she could do the WBI.

I can't imagine what the waiting is doing to her - because it's stressing ME out - A LOT!

The waiting is sooooo stressful for the moms/parents *and* the kids. My daughter flew through the application and WBI on Monday and she knows she's getting a PI but hasn't been contacted to set that up yet even though the message at the end of the WBI said she'd be contacted within 24 hours. I'm more stressed about that than she is. She has assured me that (based on what she's reading on FB and Blogs) they are scheduling the PIs for those kids doing Fall Advantage first (makes sense) and that it's not unusual for the students only applying for the Fall program to have to wait a few days to be contacted to schedule their PI. My daughter is only applying for Fall because we have an extended family 9-day trip to Disney World planned for this summer and she wants to be able to be with us for that whole trip (as opposed to just seeing us a few hours here and there during the trip because she has to work). And she also wants to work a lot of hours at her job at Starbucks this summer to save up plenty of "fun money" to use while she's doing the DCP in fall (thinking positive here. ) She has a few friends who have done DCP and they all said they wished they had saved up more money before they got there so they could do more things.

Oh my gosh!! I have loved spying on this post. I have felt every heart break and every proud moment of success with all of you! Seriously have felt tears well up several times. My daughter is different from several of yours: she has lived away from home (1300 miles away, in fact ) for her freshman and sophomore years and lived in a dorm across town for her senior year of hs at a performing arts boarding school. Her work experience is spotty: a little retail, a little food service, peer mentor for her university and a lot of volunteer at a musical theatre studio (teaching classes, behind the scenes for shows but not exactly "work" because she wan't paid for her time). She's afraid that is what will hurt her. She had planned beginning her applications for the fall 2020 but will be spending the summer in England studying Shakespeare and hated to give up the extra time Advantage offers. She will join the thousands of kids in August submitting. Every semester from here on out will be devoted to trying to get into DCP. She has met a couple of girls from school that have been part of DCP and are now going back again. The girl that my daughter has gotten to know well has been so encouraging. My girl will often refer to "if I get the chance". Her friend will say "No. WHEN you get the chance". That has been soooo uplifting. I love the positive slant. I hope that all you kids dreams come true.....good news for those still applying and a magical experience for those who are headed there now!

This whole process is so agonizing at times! You are basically always on the roller coaster. Once you do finally get accepted, you wait forever to find out WHERE you will be working and WHERE you will be living. And then you don't know until you actually check in how many others you will be living with. It's fun to have all these mysteries but it's hard on personalities that like to plan things out more. Thankfully, my dd is really laid back so it's been fine for her but my other dd is a more anxious personality and I could see this waiting and not knowing all the time really stressing her out. At least when it's her turn, she will have watched her sister go through it and know what to expect.

Ah, what a sweet comment! So glad you posted about your dd! Wishing her the best when she does apply. I think she will have a great shot! The living independently seems to be a bigger deal to Disney than having work experience. We know SO many kids who get in quickly and have never held a job at all. It actually became such a source of frustration to me at times. My dd would meet a bunch of girls on FB and they'd get accepted so fast (lived away at college but never had a job) and my dd would be just sitting in AR and then get NLIC'ed (lived at home but great work experience). So, I think your dd will have a great chance to get in!!

Still waiting.... My daughter is far less concerned about this delay than I am. She just keeps saying that she's not the only one who hasn't been contacted yet and that it seems like everyone who is still waiting has only applied for the Fall program and that Disney is concentrating on Fall Advantage right now (which makes sense....but then change the message at the end of the WBI to indicate you'll be contacted within 7-10 days rather than 24 hours. At least for the moms' sake. ). Meanwhile, she continues to watch videos, read blogs, and write up note cards. Now I worry that she's over preparing.

My DD got in & she hasn't lived independently. Well, she's currently living independently now in the DCP! One of her roommates also never lived independently.
