Any T-shirt transfer experts?

I've bought some t-shirt transfers off ebay and I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing before I take the plunge and iron them on! I have four mickey-head shaped transfers with names on - two black and red minnie ones and two pirate mickey ones.

So, first question. I was going to iron the pirate ones on to navy tshirts but have just realised that these are intended for light coloured t-shirts only. Is this because the navy will show through the transfer and spoil the colour?

Secondly. I asked the seller if I needed to cut the transfer out before ironing and she said I could if I wanted to. What difference will it make either way?

Finally, how hot should the iron be? The instructions don't say.

I'm not a transfer expert, but I just did my first two tshirts today! I used a light color transfer paper that I got from Michael's. Just to experiment, I did the same design on a white shirt and one on a hot pink shirt. The white one turned out much better. All the white parts and light colored parts of the design turned pinkish on the hot pink tshirt.

I cut out the shape because otherwise you will have a clear film in the shape of a piece of paper. My instructions said to cut a border of 1/2-1/4 inch and to round the edges so that it does not peal off as easily.

As for temperature setting, my instructions said to not use steam, so empty the reservoir and use dry heat only. It said to put it on the setting for cotton (which is the second hottest setting on my iron).

1. You really need the dark for the dark ......iron it on and see what you think OR change to a lighter colored shirt
2. CUT IT OUT before you iron it on....before you do that...make sure you have a small area peeled away from the design after you cut it out
3. Did you get any parchment paper with your paper??? have you washed your shirts yet???? I wash and iron them before I do the iron on.....Place an ironed pillowcase inside the shirt and iron to smooth out any wrinkles on the shirt DO NO USE AN IRONING BOARD....the cover is not good for this....SO you have your shirt filled with a smooth pillowcase...place the transfer where you'd like it to go and then cover with the parchment paper...THIS IS NOT WAX paper....your iron should be on the highest setting....start on one side and hold the iron down for a few seconds and move it around to make sure it's ironed on....I wait a minute and then peel the paper off IF IT looks SORTA DISCOLORED it's not ironed on...so place the parchment paper back on and Iron again PM me if you wish

Order your transfers from amymickey.com and you won't have to worry about whether the shirts are light or dark etc. Plus, you won't have to worry about flipping the design..Amy has the best and she ships FAST!!! There are no better transfer sheets out there. She includes directions.. Good luck...

This, seriously! I bought some from Michaels with a coupon, and they didn't even last one washing when I tested them out. I ordered from Amy and they arrived in 4 days. I just tried my first one out tonight and it worked like a dream - so much easier than the other brand! I haven't washed it yet, but I have a good feeling about this one

I only use dark transfers and I ONLY get them from AmyMickey.

Amy quit doing Disney designs a long time ago but she still sells transfers online to anyone. I buy mine from her which can be used on any color of shirts and I also buy from Sams club might be Avery but they carry 1 for light shirts and 1 for color or dark shirt.

Search ***Design Tips*** Baloo has some good tips for shirts on the 1st post, it's old but I use as a reference. I cut the edges off my transfers so the design doesn't have a white box around it but some look good this way. I would at least cut the corners and round so it doesn't peel as easy.
