HOW BACK IS MS I HAVE BEEN ON SPACE MOUNTAIN AND ROCK N ROLLER COASTER AND BOTH MADE ME FEEL VERY SICK BUT NOT ACTUALLY GET SICK. IS MS MUCH WORSE. MY DAUGHTER LOVES THESE RIDES AND HAS NO ONE BUT ME TO GO ON WITH. DO YOU THINK I SHOULD LET HER GO ON ALONE ??

THANK YOU DIANE

MS is completely different that the RnR and SM; more like a Star Tours on steroids. The concept is to simulate the space flight experience, including the g-forces generated by launch and other activities. To accomplish this effect, your entire pod is whirled around at the end of a long arm, tipped from side to side and back and forth, and bounced around. I generally don't like spinning rides, but MS didn't bother me that much; maybe because you never get the visual sensation of spinning to go along with the physical sensation. You could definitely feel the effects afterward, however.

If SM and RnR almost made you sick don't even THINK about MS!! I LOVE rollercoasters, and LOVED RnR, but MS almost did me in! Once I got off of the "ride" I had to go sit down for about 15 minutes and regain my composure. Whew. Thought I was gonna lose it there for a second! Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a pretty cool ride, especially the take-off (AWESOME!), but the landing on Mars was almost too much.

I dunno. If I were you I don't think I'd risk it. But to each their own. Good luck if you give it a go! And, whatever you decide, have a great time!

I love RNRC and TOT. They do not make me sick at all. I do get very dizzy on the tea cups. With that said, I was very excited to go on MS with my DS. I waited in line for 45 minutes. During that time waiting, I all of a sudden got very hungry for lunch. But I was not getting out of line. So I waited, getting more nervous because my stomache was already feeling a little sick from hunger. Well, I made out fine. As long as you make sure to keep your head back and DO NOT close your eyes, and keep looking straight ahead, you may be fine. But you have to follow these rules. I was not that impressed by this ride. I probably would not do it again. Good Luck!

GO WITH HER, it's a neat ride.
BUT, DO take the advise of MINNIEBOWSER.

Take off was no problem for me, but the landing made me say "Hmmmmm.........."

Not knowing how old your daughter is, it's hard to say if she should go alone. If she's old enough, then sure! It really is a terrific attraction though, if you think you can squeek by. :)

Do what capcom says, have an empty stomach, have some fruit/water ready to eat after the attraction in case you feel a touch disoriented and you should be fine. The attraction is awesome and getting ill at RNR or SpaceMtn does not follow you will feel ill at MS.

Some people have stated that they can judge/guess how MS will make them feel based on Body Wars or Star Tours but even then it is not the same motion

We went on in Nov and will go again - hacing said that it is intense enough to ensure one ride per day (i.e. we would not repeat as for example the 7 times in a row on Space Mtn ot 5 round trippers during Spectro between BTMRR and Splash)

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOU ADVICE, MAYBE I WILL SIT IT OUT, MY DAUGHTER WILL BE 14 BY THEN SO SHE CAN GO ON ALONE.
THANKS AGAIN AND WHY DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR EYE OPEN FOR THIS RIDE, I FIND ON SP AND RNR I CLOSE MY EYES THROUGH THE ENTIRE RIDE, I FEEL IF I DON'T SEE IT WON'T BOTHER ME.

If you don't keep your eyes open (and looking STRAIGHT AHEAD) you'll feel the effects of the spinning quite a lot and you'll get very dizzy. Also be sure to stay back in the seat.

If you follow excatly what capcom says in the preshow you'll be fine.

I agree with the advice here - it's VERY important that you keep your eyes open and head back in the headrest. Everyone I talked to outside MS that felt queasy said they moved their heads or closed their eyes. Then there were those who rode it 7 or 8 times - but all of them said they followed the directions. So I experimented - I felt fine following the directions, but felt queasy when I moved my head. The important thing is to help the ride fool your body into thinking it's being shot into space rather than spun around - this means keeping your head still, eyes open, and concentrating on the screen in front of you - the visual cues help your body decide on what's happening to it.

All simulators, and some roller coasters, make me sick, but I was determined to try MS, so I took a Bonine pill the night before we did Epcot and I was fine, the first time I experienced it. I made the mistake of doing it twice in one day. I wasn't that bad, but my head definitely felt it, the second time!

Look guys, I hate to be the wet rag here, but why even risk getting ill? She says RnR and SP gives her a funny feeling. I've had motion sickness twice in my life (I'm 41), and for those of you who have never had it, you are MISERABLE when you've got motion sickness. Why risk a great day at WDW, possibly a great trip, all for the sake of going on one ride? That just doesn't make sense to me. They're providing air sickness bags for crying out loud!!! 'Nuff said.

Let your 14-year-old DD go on the ride and enjoy the rest of your day.

She was asking for advice...we are giving her our opinions....'nuff said!

Fearthisss, your points are valid

My opinion was that the motion on MS is not like RNR or Space Mtn so getting sick on RNR does not imply you will get sick on MS however I suspect that if Body Wars or Star Tours gives you motion sickness than MS is probably likely to

I was a little out of it for about 1 hour and then was ok - it was worth it but I view this attraction as 1x/trip

thanks

The only thing I'm worried about is something the article alluded - some people are being scared away based on the reports. We're going on Monday specifically to ride M:S and see Mickey's Philharmagic, which weren't open when we there in July. My daughter is also a DISer and has been reading some of the reports and is now having second thoughts about trying M:S. While she'll ride BTMRR and RnR, she will not do Splash Mountain or ToT because she doesn't like drops.

Everyone's experience is different, what affects one person doesn't affect the other, but what's happening is everybody is hearing the horro stories of barf bags and motion sickness and they get scared off without even trying it.

I intend to follow the recommendations suggested here and folllow the instructions of the ride and enjoy myself. If I don't like it, then I'll know for the second time. I tried Alien Encounter and Sounds Dangerous, even though I don't like dark places and found out I hated them both, but at least I tried them once and made my own judgement.

My family rode Mission Space a few weeks ago. I let my DH and 11 yo DD ride it first and to see what they thought about it. I had read so many reports of people experiencing motion sickness, I was getting scared to try it. That being said, they thought I could handle it. I rode it as my last ride of the night. I felt a little funny when I got off the ride, but that feeling passed in just a few minutes. (the warnings they give you before you get on are enough to make anyone have second thoughts) I am glad I did it. I will probably not do it again just because I'm not that crazy about being confined in small, dark spaces. That aspect bothered me more than the spinning. I kept telling myself I could handle it for 4 minutes and I did. I think everyone should try it once.

I agree - I will try anything once. I tried M:S and I may not ride it again! What really bothered me was something I haven't read or heard from anyone else. I felt like I couldn't breathe! The spinning wasn't a problem, and I didn't get queasy. As soon as I got off, I was fine. However, for a few seconds during the ride I panicked because I COULDN'T breathe! Everyone else that rode it with me (8 yo nephew, 12 yo nephew, 15 yo brother, and sister and brother-in-law) loved it.

Yang Yang, I'm with you. The not being able to breathe is part of claustrophobia. Even though they blew air on us it was difficult to catch my breath.
