Any suggestions on luring my cat out from under our shed?

We screwed up last night - left the screen door open for several hours in the evening. (new sliders - just not used to set-up). Realized this morning that the two cats stayed out all night - they are indoor-only cats. I found one right away on the backyard - he came in as soon as talked nice to him. We finally found his brother under the shed. There is no way to reach in and get him. This is a cat that I can't even pick up. Not sure how I'll get him back into the house.

Of course, it's the hottest day of the year, so me sitting out there in the sun is not going to happen. I left water and one of his soft "houses". He wouldn't come out with the shake of the treat container. I talk nice to him, but he won't budge.

Hubby thinks he'll come out when he's hungry, but I don't know. I also can't watch that area 24/7. Added to the fact that he won't let me pick him up. We had to absolutley corner him to get him into his carrier when we moved.

Any ideas?

Open can of tuna, preferably in oil
Place 2 feet from shed
Catch cat when he comes running out

Is he stuck under there? Maybe he's not able to get out?

Yikes! I hadn't thought of that. I'm pretty sure he's not stuck. He's not very vocal, but I have heard him hiss and cry before. I'm here alone, but I'd like to make noise at the other end of the shed and maybe he'll come out the side I see him.

If he's not coming out because he's frightened, that wouldn't work too well.

I still say bribe him with some nice smelly tuna. Even Fergie couldn't resist that.

You've done what would work at our house, one shake of the treat container and they just about attack the person who is shaking it.

Maybe hit the side of the shed with something to make a noise and see if that runs him out.

The tuna is what I was going to suggest. Make sure he can smell it. I think I would try coaxing him out before scaring him out - he may bolt.

Hope you get him.

I would try to block off all but one side so you can control his exit a bit more. You could also rent, borrow one of the kind traps that catch them and put it so he has to go into it to get out from under the shed and put the tuna in there.

I second the tuna idea. My cats are tuna addicts and could never resist that lure.

If that doesn't work, if it can made it to the shed possibly an appears from the vacuum will help.

I wonder if he's stuck too. Try the tuna. My cats adore KFC. I also had a cat literally climb a door to get to tuna. Leave him alone though, don't try to coax him for a while. Just put the tuna/food down and walk away without saying anything. Cats also hide when they are sick or hurt. DO NOT HOSE HIM WITH WATER. HE WILL NEVER TRUST YOU AGAIN.

Awwww. I'm so sorry he's under there. I have no further suggestions for you, but I'm hoping he comes out to you soon.

.

I'm afraid if I leave the food out and walk away, that he'll come get some and go right back under there. Once DH gets home, one of us can be at the back end of the shed and maybe force him out the side I can see him.

He barely lets me pet him. I can pet him on his neck - but only if he wants it. He's such a scaredy-cat. Hard to believe these cats are from the same litter.

On the other hand, at least I know where he is. I just have to hope that he will come out eventually.

Shake the bag of cat crunches and pour a big heaping bowl near the back door. Wait for him to sneak over.

Does he have a jingle toy he loves? My cat can't resist the feather toy with the little bell.

If you do get him to come out you throw that over him and he will have to slow down then you can scoop him up without getting attacked. That is the only way we have been able to handle her some time.

I'm mean.. I would probably get a large stick and try to prod her out. I think the hose would work too. Not sure my cat would come for tuna or treats if she was unhappy.

Good luck..

So, I know he's not stuck! He moved to the back end of the shed. We have furniture stacked there, so we just need to move some of that. The back of the shed is closer to the slider, so we might put the other cat in our bathroom and leave the slider open enough for him to come in later this evening.

Oh bother! We should have named him Eeyore instead of Tigger

How is the cat doing?

This is the Dis Board, we become obsessed with these things. You just can't leave us dangling!

Well, we used the leaf-blower to get him out from under the deck. He flew right by the open door. We cornered him under the bench in the outdoor shower. When I went to pull him out from under there he bit and scratched me. I know he felt cornered, but after 5 years, doesn't he know we wouldn't hurt him? He ended up under the shed again. I left food and water near-by and saw him walking around outside the shed around 5 AM. Some of the food is gone.

I'll be calling my doctor's office as soon as they open. I probably need a tetanus shot and anti-biotics. MAN - he really tore me up! Nothing is still bleeding, but most of the bites and scratches hurt.

I'll call the Vets office too and ask their suggestions. Looks like we have one indoor-only cat and one outdoor-only cat. Tigger has never been "right". He's always been a scaredy-cat. Last time I took him to the Vet, he asked me not to bring him back, as he bounced all over the walls and he couldn't examine him or give any shots. I had a home Vet come out and give him his shot.

I'm sad (& I hurt)
