Any suggestions for coffee while staying at a Value Resort?

We will be in WDW the first week in June, and this will be our first time staying in a Value Resort (probably ASMu). I am horrified because I just learned that there are NO COFFEE MAKERS in the Value Resorts! This will just not do for me, so I need to figure out a solution. I would prefer not to trek over to the food court for coffee (I like to drink my coffee in the room while we are all getting ready), so I guess my only real option is to bring a small coffee maker with me. Does anyone have suggestions for an inexpensive, compact coffee maker that will travel well? No good coffee in the morning = unhappy mom!

I remember at one time on the resort boards there are fridge swaps and I think I recall some having seperate coffee pot swap also...I haven't stayed on site in a few years but was once involved in POP fridge swap and we added a coffe pot to that one :surfweb: don't know where youre staying If I were you I would look at the resort boards or wherever the swaps are listed now (try search link) good luck...I would DIE without my coffee

No suggestions other than we broughtone on out first trip and then did not use it!! We are coffee-aholics too and thought we could not survive without it!! But, it was so hot that the cold beverages in our reuasable mugs turned out to be what we wanted. (We were there in September - the thought of coffee when it was Hot and Humid was not happening!)

Have fun!!

I have been looking at the boards for a swap that includes coffee pot, but haven't found one for our dates. I'll keep looking, though!

Mom2Faith, I understand what you mean about coffee + heat! I wouldn't want coffee while outside at the parks, but even in the summer, I still like it in the room in the morning. We're from the south, so we're used to the extreme heat (and I still drink coffee every morning!). I have to admit, though, to grabbing an occasional iced coffee at the Writer's Stop in Hollywood Studios!

I bought and brought one of my own and now still take it to DVC resorts because it just makes better coffee. It is a 4 cup Mr Coffee that is programable which I love. It is like my own little alarm clock because I wake up when I smell the coffee. DH doesn't drink it so the 4 cup is just fine for me. I got it on sale for less than $15 but I did see one at Goodwill shortly after that for $5.

I refuse to drink the swill that is known as Nescafe so we bought the smallest Keurig they make. It takes up a fair bit of room in the suitcase though.

My mom has a travel coffee pot. Only about $20 and the size of a kids lunchbox thermos. We didn't like the brewing (it tastes okay but the measuring was a hassle and if you have even a little too much it's way too strong since it's only about 12 oz at a time) but it makes really hot water so we take foldgers coffee singles. My friend has a little coil that plugs into the wall and heats up water one cup at a time (only make sure you use a real cup not plastic or styrofoam). She bought it in a travel section years ago for less than $10 dollars. The still make them only I don't know how much they are now.

I've seen those little coils, they are called "Immersion Water Heaters" they boil one cup of water at a time. I was thinking of getting one, then you can either use an instant coffee (I hear the new Starbucks kind is good) or I have this little plastic Melitta contraption that you sit on top of a cup, you put a filter and coffee in it and then pour the hot water onto the coffee and it drips out the bottom into the cup.

Last year we brought our coffeemaker/travelmug, coffeemaker. Wow what a difference. It was like heaven! No walking a mile to get coffee at the beginning of the day, no horrible tasting coffee, just yummy dunkin donut coffee to start the day. I took the coffeemaker and stainless steel mugs in our suit case and everything worked out well. We brought the obvious (coffee filters, coffee, powdered coffeemate and sugar). Delicious! One our best ideas ever!

Have tried the presspots but they are too messy to clean out in the bathroom sink.

Whatever you do, don't get coffee at the food court. First time we tried it, we ended up just going cold turkey and taking Excedrin. It's that bad!

I haven't stayed at a value resort in some time but the last time I was there, I was able to request a coffee pot from housekeeping. It's my understanding that they have several available on a first come/first serve basis...at least they did when we stayed there. Hope this helps....

I would try Starbucks Via as well. So simple a 12 pack is 9.95 and the packets are the size of Crystal light. All you need is hot water. Have fun!

I had this very issue last month. I was chaperoning a school group, so I kind of figured we would be REALLY far from food court area for getting the (bad) coffee. I discussed it with my room mate (another mom) and since she was also a coffeeholic I bought a small Mr. Coffee from Wal-mart for $14. She brought the Maxwell house filter packs, sugar packets, creamers (including flavored ones, yeahh!). She even brought us plastic coffee mugs. I'm telling you...all the other chaperones were sooo jealous. That little pot brewed up so fast and made GREAT coffee. We made two batches each morning. I threw in some disposable styrofoam coffee cups with those covered lids for taking coffee "to-go".

I packed the box in my luggage in its original packaging. On the way home I repacked it as well as possible. It made both airplane trips with flying colors. I now use this little pot for quick cups when I don't have time to brew a whole big pot.

Our group was in Mighty Ducks at ASM. I would have been a sad girl without my little wonderful pot. Sure it took up some room in my suitcase but the box was not too big. If you do this don't forget the disposable cups... they were really nice to have and then just toss after the bus ride to wherever.

My roomate had no idea there would not be a coffee pot in the room. We are like best buds now, thanks to the DIS!:woohoo:

I was going to suggest the same thing. VIA! So yummy. You could probably scam some samples at Starbucks - or a few ;)

Actually, I would just save yourself all of the worry and trouble by just buying a refillable mug. If you're not traveling alone, just send someone to fill it with coffee for you!

One of the few disappointments at WDW is the terrible coffee. We are not coffee snobs by any means and even WE can't drink the Nescafe coffee in the food court.

Bring your own and use a little 1-cup pot. You'll enjoy it!
