Since Target stopped allowing the use of 5% debit/credit cards along with the 5% pharmacy discount, who still uses the 5%?

I'm just wondering since the cards are in $50 incriments, if it's worth all the time calling all the cards in to pay for hotel and park passes for just the 5% discount?

It's still a savings...

I never used the Target pharmacy, so I've always been a "just 5%" person. The way I see it, 5% has value and I can use the money somewhere else. I will probably buy $500 to $1000 in cards before our July trip and give them to the CM when we check in. It isn't a big hassle at all.

I'll still use the gift cards. 5% savings is better than no savings and every little bit helps. Yes, its a bit of a pain putting in all the cards and holding on to them in case you need a refund but I'm usually at Target once a week so it's nothing for me to pick one up.

We could never use the pharmacy rewards in my state so I didn't lose anything.

I don't pay off my whole trip. It's not worth the hassle but I have used them for food and extras
And probably will continue to do so.

only you can decide if it's worth the time and effort for you to do it.

I just paid off our reservation all in Disney cards. I do the automatic system and verbally give the card numbers while I'm folding laundry or doing dishes :) To me it's totally worth the 5% savings.

Depending on how much the trip takes a toll on your finances, that savings can be significant. I bought $500 worth of cards so only "saved" $25, but that is a tshirt, money for tips, extra snacks, or maybe a cab ride. No it doesn't make or break my trip but I'd much rather have it to spend if I can.

I actually ended up with like $98 bucks left on my cards after paying my stuff off then got 4 $10 cards from DMR just recently. So I figure with all that I don't have to worry about cash for tips, any cash during the F&W festival and probably still have a bit left over.

Without the extra 5% we thinking using a points card to buy at a grocery store that offers gas discounts is better.

This is where I am at right now. Once there is no longer the 4x fuel rewards, I'm back to buying gift cards at Target with 5% off.

I just hand a huge stack to the CM at check-in also. It's never been difficult at all.

Count me in for the 5% DGCs! :)
Discounts, Reward Programs and Rapid Rewards...ANYTHING I can do to make these trips a bit more "affordable!!!" :thumbsup2

I kept picking them up, and I think I just got our last one for now. I have $400 in giftcards and $680 in cc cash rewards, so I think that's enough for dining at the moment. I'll probably grab a few more closer to October.

I never used the pharmacy discount, so I am still getting the 5% discount. $50 discount off of a $1000 is a decent discount.

I dont have a target Red Card, but I do have pharmacy rewards. We went today, to use our 5% pharmacy rewards coupon card. While we saved 5% on the odds and ends we needed, The entertainment gift cards are no longer discounted 5% by using the pharmacy rewards discount.

The 5% off of our package works out to around $700...add in what we're taking for spending money that we know we'll spend on Disney property, and what we'll spend on tips (we're on the dining plan), and we're looking at saving over $1,100 with that 5%. The time I spend scratching off the codes and texting our TA photos of the cards is well worth that much to us!

I do buy the gift cards at our grocery store when they have 4x fuel rewards, and use the maxed out points amounts ($1/gallon) after my gas light comes on, and that turns out to be slightly better than the 5% off. I'm hoping they'll bring back the $2/gallon discount for the summer, because that's an amazing discount, but we can only use so much fuel in a given time period, so once we max that out, it's back to the 5%.

If you're taking time off of work, or even away from your family, to use the gcs, then maybe it isn't worth it. When we didn't use a TA, I called during my girls' dance classes, or other times when I would normally be playing Candy Crush or similarly wasting time :)

Yes, that stopped a few months ago. It's only the Red Card discount now. We don't use credit cards, so we have the Red Card debit card.

This^^

For us, I feel like saving the money on fuel and being able to purchase $500 gift cards is much easier and more savings.

If you do not have a Target credit card, you can get a Target debit card and the money will come right your bank account and you still the 5% savings. I bought $1,000 worth of cards this morning and got the savings. It just took a few minutes on the phone with Disney to process them all.

Without a question, we still do it.

We use the cards to pay our DVC dues.
We use the cards to pay on board our Disney Cruises.
We use the cards to pay at the DVC front desk when we check in.

Bottom line.... that 5% adds up to quote a tidy sum.

Not sure what you mean by "all the time it takes" to use the cards? For DVC dues, I just type up the numbers of the cards and fax them to DVC to pay dues. Maybe 15 minutes. For everything else, just hand them over!

So... yes, it's really worth it!
