Any Spa Specials?

My wife and I will be headed to Aulani in three weeks. We will be there for 12 nights and plan on doing a spa day sometime during the trip. I've looked at the spa menu on line and the prices seem mostly in line with what we are used to paying on DCL.

Does anybody know if they ever offer any daily specials like they do on DCL? A discounted price on a specific service?

FWIW, we're probably just going to do a massage.

That would be nice! I haven't heard of specials though. At least you get all of those shower/bath/make-your-own-scrub extras with a spa appt. I told my husband, "You are going to make a scrub whether or not YOU want it... souvenir for me!"

I'm guessing that if they do have daily specials they will be listed in the Ewa.

I looked and didn't see spa specials in the daily news letter, I was holding out before booking a treatment. With the DVC you get a treatment upgrade on some spa treatments which I used on a massage. The merchandise in the spa does not come with the DVC 10% off.

Yes! They told me DVC members get a free upgrade to a Signature Lomilomi from the regular one. I am not a DVC member, so I had to say no, but they did offer that. Let me see if i can find the email...

There aren't any spa specials like on a cruise. DVC members get automatic upgrade from regular to signature services. Just make sure to bring your DVC card, or online card and photo ID. Last week they were very particular about needing to verify current DVC status and that it was the member receiving the service.

I'm going to write more on my trip thread about our spa day(s), but in a nutshell, the best massage & spa experience I have _ever_ had. I often get massages to manage a medical issue and this was exceptional. Expensive, but worth it. We just now know to budget much more spa money for our next trip.

Good to know Monika. Thanks. A couple of questions/comments,
  • We won't have a problem with the membership thing. All of our points are direct from DVC (we first bought in 1995) so the recent change in their rules doesn't affect us. I'm sure we will enjoy the upgrade of the signature services.
  • I've read the Spa menu on the Aulani web site but it doesn't really tell me what the different massages are like. Since I don't speak Hawaiian I don't know what things like "lomilomi" mean. We're after a soothing massage. Not one that beats you to near-death. ;)
  • Did you and your wife do a couples massage? Val & I have done that on board cruises before and enjoyed it. I assume they offer them at Aulani as well.
  • Did you take advantage of the special separate outside area for lounging before/after?

No need to respond to this post right away. I'll wait patiently for your review. Thanks!:surfweb:

We have spa treatments scheduled almost every day, between our whole group! I'm really excited about the spa lol.

We have all our pts through DVC too & even though DVC was on our room card, we still had to carry ID & our DVC card to get discounts at stores & the spa upgrade. PIA, but I get it.

We both got the Signiture LomiLomi and its like a Swedish massage with the addition of soothing hot stones. So delicious. If you want relaxing, you will melt through the table. The massage therapists speak varying degrees of English, but the reception staff can make a note about what degree of firmness you prefer.

They do offer them and the couples room looks lovely. We didn't have a couples massage.

Ohhhh. Yesssss. Both before and after. We arrived about 45 min prior to our massage and soaked in all the pools (except for the cold plunge) and the various rain showers.
Afterwards we slept in the relaxation room, ate provided snacks & flavored waters & used the sauna & steam room. The indoor showers are lovely and they provide all basic care needs, including sun block!

Heh. Thanks. I'm in recovery mode today, but hope to write about our spa day this afternoon.

Thanks!:surfweb: [/QUOTE]

Wow - that's a bunch of spa stuff!!! I'm jealous. :thumbsup2

It looks like you are departing just a few days before we arrive (we get in on 5/7) so I'll be interested to read any spa reports you would care to post.

Now that I say that, maybe we need a separate thread just for Spa reviews, similar to what is done for restaurant reviews.

LOL! Yeah, we go a little spa bonkers. I will certainly try to get some reports up before you go :) We will get home on May 6th.

Just did our spa day on Sunday. Really, really enjoyed it. I did the Signature Lomi Lomi massage at a fairly low intensity. My wife went for the reflexology.

Went down an hour early to enjoy the relaxation area first - they tell you to get there 45 minutes beforehand. They were prompt when it was time for the treatment and afterwards I spent some more time outside in the relaxation area before trying the steam room and the sauna. Took a shower and shaved while there as well. Very relaxing day!
