We're going to be at Magic Kingdom one whole day (including the pirate: & princess: party), then Epcot and MGM the next. I know I won't be eating healthy *at all* on the trip especially when it comes to dinners, but was hoping I would be able to not eat as bad with counter service and snacks. Any ideas at all? :confused3

There are many healthy choices at CS and snack stands, did you go to allearsnet.com and check out the menus?

Cosmic Rays has great healthy stuff, Peco Bills has a great chilled chicken wrap, there are fresh fruit and veggie stands everywhere, Sunshine Seasons has wonderful choices

Two that come to mind quickly are Columbia Harbor House at MK and the market area in Mickey's Toontown (fresh fruit for snacks).

Cosmic Ray's has rotisserie chicken and there is a stand that has fruit/vegs and baked potatoes in the MK. Columbia Harbor House has some healthy-type sandwiches.
At Epcot, Sunshine Seasons has a lot of healthy options. The CS in Japan and Morocco is healthy as well, depending on what you get to eat. There is a great smoked salmon open faced sandwich in Norway, but you have to get past tons of yummy pastries to get to it!

oh, and the infamous Dole Whips are supposedly not fattening either!

I had no problem getting healthy food at most of the counter service restaurants. Most of them offer at least 1 or 2 healthy choices as well as tasty sugar free desserts.

The tuna salad sandwich at CHH is gooood eats, and not gloppy at all. Just enough dressing to hold it all together.

I find it pretty easy to eat smart, anywhere at WDW. The trick for me is the willpower part.

It's so easy to eat healthy at WDW, even in the CS places. I haven't had a CS Burger in WDW since 1993. I do occasionally indulge in a Waterfall Burger at the Cabana Bar & Grill tho. I have never eaten a chicken finger there ever. It's just not the way I like to eat.

In MK, I like the Chicken Salad at Pecos Bill - It used to be called the Kitt Carson. Greens with Jicama Slaw, Grilled Chicken & a Lime Vinaigrette (get dressing on the side) I also like the Antipasta Salad at Pinnochios, again, dressing on the side or else it swims in it. I am crazy for the Tuna Sandwich at Columbia Harbor House, but don't consider any salad held together with Mayo as "diet" food. Healthy in moderation yes, but still loaded with fat. I don't diet, so I eat one every trip. If you are watching fat, keep in mind the mayo.

In Epcot, you have great choices. Everything from a Seared Tuna or Goat Cheese / Roasted Beet salad in Season's in the Land or my personal fave, the Tabbouleh Wrap at Tangereine Cafe in Morocco. At Yakatori House in Japan, there is a great salad, miso soup and Tokoyo Rolls.

Even MGM had some healthier choices. We got stuck there for lunch last trip & went to ABS Commisary. I had a very good Tabbouleh wrap with Black Bean Salad on the side. I was totally surprised to get decent CS in MGM! That's never happened to me before. lol My friend got a child's portion of a veggie stir-fry that really wasn't half bad either.

I notice you didn't mention AK, but if you go there, they have a great salmon dish or a rotisserie chicken dish at Tusker house.

You never ever have to eat crap in WDW if you don't want to.

I'm not a big burger and fries person myself. But I find all kind of things to eat at Disney World while my husband makes sure a cow didn't die in vain. I'm not big into salads either.

My favorite counter service at Epcot is Lotus Blossom Cafe. The menu changed slightly with the refurb but the egg rolls are a great snack. I wish they would bring back the fortune cookies as a side. Those two together made a great light lunch. I also believe at the Sunshine Seasons or whatever the food court at the Land is called has baked potatoes and soup options.

Another decent option is the chips at the United Kingdom fish and chips stand. It's listed as a side and pretty good for a snack.

And the best snack EVER while at Disney World - a big old soft pretzel. Take off the salt (easily taken off) and leave the cheese goop off and that's a wonderful bargain. We will share one all the time.

Also, any of the side items like apple or grapes are available for separate purchase. And each of the parks has a fruit stand. Nothing like have a fruit break during the day.

we manage to bridge the willpower and desire to eat healthy thing by sharing... i'll get the chef or grilled chicken salad and one of the kids will get the burger and fries and i'll get a fruit or sugar free dessert and they'll go for the decadence and then we split both... imo best of both worlds!

I feel we did pretty good

we had salad several times, fish (grilled several times even as CS)

Tangerine Cafe (Epcot) has a veggie platter that is very good. many places will let you sub the fries for something healthier.

MGM dd#1 and I ordered the grilled chicken salad which was greens and carrots and tomatoes with grilled chicken on top of it.

Season in the Land pavilion in Epcot is where I had grilled salmon for lunch, dh had a cuban ( grilled veggie sandwich).

Flame Tree BBQ has a REALLY good healthy salad. It's grilled chicken and mixed greens (not iceburg lettuce) and a light vinaigrette dressing. It tastes so good.

I agree with that-it was a lovely salad and my DM was amazed when i got home and told her I voluntarily had a salad!:rotfl2:

I think it depends on what you mean by "healthy"

There are lots of options for salads, wraps, and generally lighter fare. You don't need to eat burgers and fries for a week. Do check the menus as each CS place has a very limited number of selections - if you aren't in the mood for a Chicken Ceasar, you may be choosing between that and a burger. Epcot is best in terms of options. So knowing what the healthy entree at each CS place in will help.

If by healthy eating you are looking towards organic food or well balanced vegetarian options, your options are going to be more limited - organic pretty much non-existant at counter service places (pretty much anywhere at Disney) and well balanced vegetarian you'll have to do some looking.

I am a fairly big health nut and I find that pretty much every dining establishment in WDW has acceptable options. I am also vegan, so I would imagine the options including meat would increase the choices for others, as well. There really is no reason to eat unhealthy foods at WDW, unless it is by choice. You can check out the menus online ahead of time and even call ahead to discuss your dietary needs/food ingredients with the chefs, if you'd like. Enjoy!

I agree it depends on what you mean by healthy AND definitely agree that there are reasonably "healthy" options everywhere if you choose to choose them.

There are some things mentioned upthread I personally would never call "healthy" (and what I call healthy may not be another person's definition). For example, Plaza has a veggie burger which is low fat, low cholesterol, but is a highly processed food, and has a white bun (so has "bad" carbs, lol). Organic is important to me (at home we eat only organic) but I don't even bother to consider looking for "organic" at WDW--it doesn't exist for the most part (I see it mentioned on salads on occasion though).

Dh and I feel very good about the choices we make at WDW. Maybe if the OP were more specific about what type of "healthy" they were looking for we could offer more specific options......?
