Any solution to this?

I bough a Nikon cool pix camera for our disneyland trip. I was going to use this for both video and pictures but this is my dilemma. If I use a 32g or 64g sd card I can't dump it to my ipad because my hard drive is too small. I don't have a laptop either. Is there a device out there out there where I can dump it each day or do I need a laptop? Thanks

How much do you want to spend on a device? There are some out there but they do cost a bit.

You could always consider cloud storage.

I'll suggest a relatively inexpensive alternative - more SD cards. Buy 3-4 cards and you should have enough storage to last until you get back home and can download them to your computer.

More SD cards is definitely an affordable option. Surprisingly, I've found great prices at Radio Shack.

You might also consider a netbook. I've always thought they were a better option than tablets for many situations - including this one. For under $250 you can get Windows 8.1 netbook with 10" screen, 320GB hard drive, touch screen and USB ports for copying data.

All u would do is plug the sd card in this device. Then if I bought a 1t portable drive and use a app that is on my iphone it would transfer pictures over to the hard drive , is this correct. How fast is this data transfer?

yes - that's right. Not sure the exact specs for data transfer - I know its not as fast as downloading on a laptop.
I would imagine you would start the transfer and leave it running. Once running you don't need the smartphone.

I plan to use it on my next trip to WDW (but coming from the UK this will not happen until next year!)

It also can be used to stream movies from sd/hdd to smart devices, an emergency phone charger and a booster for my home wifi (allowing me to sit in outside and surf)

Adding up the cost of the transfer device and the hard drive, plus the time spent transferring the files, I would much prefer to buy more SD cards. It is a faster, more secure, and easier solution.
Not sure how long your trip is but even shooting HDR sets and video I have a hard time going past 64 GB on a WDW trip.

And I have to admit, being the paranoid sort, I would not like transferring the files, then erasing the card without actually viewing them on the drive.

This is why I use it. I also never erase my SD cards until I'm back home. However, I plan to use the device to backup my files. I've experienced an SD card failure and lost pictures. (Also, you can see the files on the drive through the smartphone app - another great use could be to take the device around to family and friends and share your holiday photos through their ipads etc)

My family go to WDW for at least 14 days but we can only afford to travel from the UK every two years or so. Photographing Disney is a big part of our holiday. My wife also shoots with a DSLR. Last time we ended up with over 140GB worth of files. Last time we took a laptop - not ideal as it wouldn't fit in the hotel safe.

I already had a few portable HD drives lying around. And the fact that my son can use it to stream movies on long car journeys to his ipod touch and keep it charged is a bonus and worth the £30 ($45) on its own :)

I know that I have come across a bit strong over this but I am just amazed at what it can do for such a cheap price.

OK, that makes sense! In fact, since I have already have plenty of memory cards and a spare external drive or two laying around, my investment would be minimal so I might give it some thought. It sounds like the OP was hoping to avoid buying a bunch of cards though so don't know if this will be the best answer for them.
