With DS9 spiraling down on us I know there is no time like the present to go GF and see what it has to offer.

How important is it to cut out casien at the same time? What are your thoughts on this?

Also what do I need to know right now- like is there a particuliar suppliment I need to get into the kid ASAP so he does not become deficient in anything important until I can find a nutritionist?

Bookwormde- What are you thought on diet mods? Have you ever tied it or do you do this?

I don't have a response to your question, but a silly comment.
When I first read your thread title, I thought you meant Grand Floridian. I guess you can tell I am new to the disABILITIES thread!

The easiest way to do this diet-wise is go back to basics. By basics, I mean eating chicken, rice, potatoes, fish, eggs, veggies. No breading, no dressings, no pasta/bread/etc. Salsa really was my friend for about 2 weeks as was real cheese. It's not a bad diet and if there is a gluten problem you'll see symptoms gone within two weeks, but I would suggest you really have him tested. It could be something else.

Anything that improves cogintive capabilies is benefitial for our kids, even a good vitiman can make a difference. Certainly diets can also have an impact. For our kids small incemental improvments in cognitive abilites that would go unoticed in NT kids can often allow our kids to imporve there self adaptive skills remakably.

A lot of poeple that do diets are looking for a "cure" and that is jsut silly. There are lots of items in the toolbox to support out kids and diet is just one of a multitude.

We tried the diet last year for five months. It alleviated some of DD's GI issues immediately. Prior to that, nothing had worked, and we had been to numerous GI doctors and had tried more medications than I can remember. We didn't see improvements in behavior or cognition while on the diet, although I know many who have. If we had, we'd still be on it now. Eventually we found digestive enzymes worked just as well for some (not all) of the GI issues, and that's what we do now. I think the diet is well worth a try. Many people swear by it.
