Update: I listed them on the 17th (Sat) and on Tuesday morning, I sold the Bounce House for $180 - $5 more than I even asked for it because I did deliver (it was 5 minutes out of the way of where I was going anyway) and today I sold the Kitchen for $50. Got full price for both!!!!

I hope I made a good deal yesterday...

I went to Goodwill for the first time ever and found two things I snatched right up to resell on Craigslist. However, it's been up all day and no nibbles, so I'm thinking maybe I was hasty!!!

I bought:

1. Little Tikes Side by Side Kitchen - NEW IN BOX!!! for $19.99. They retail at Walmart for $55, so I was thinking I could make something off it. What would you list it for? I have it listed for $50 - is that way too high?

2. Little Tikes Jump N' Slide Bounce House - NEW IN BOX!!! for $24.99. This isn't for sale anymore I think, but it was listed on their website for $229 plus tax and shipping!!! I listed it on CL for $175, which I thought was still a good price, but is that way too high also?

I know I'm being greedy on #2, but I am hoping to put that extra $150 directly into our Disney fund.

All opinions welcome, please help!!!!

For me it would woule have to be about 50% of retail before I would mess with CL over just going to the store and buying. I would say $25 for #1 and
$110 for #2

If it was near the holidays and the items were sold out in your area, you could get those prices. If you want to sell now, I'd go with MickeyMickey's prices. Did you post pictures? That might help....

I think $50 is too high for the little tikes if you can get a brand new one with a warranty/receipt in case it doesn't work. Thats a 10% discount. It would have to be much more of a discount.

As for the bounce house, IDK.

I did read recently of a craigslist strategy that seemed to work. Man had something listed for, let's say $200. He said price firm but will be reducing price every XX amount of days until sold. So, while you could wait and see if you got a better deal, someone else might buy it before you did. Good strategy.:teacher:

My one and only experience with CL was when SO found this crazy clearance deal on an extension ladder at Home Depot and bought it to resell on CL. We had it listed for a couple weeks before we had a nibble. But we did eventually sell it for 3+ times what we paid for it. I think a very detailed description and pics are helpful.

As far as if your prices are too high...I think yes they are. As another poster pointed out, I wouldn't go through the hassel of buying something on CL for $5 less than I could buy it at Walmart unless it was sold out and I HAD to have it.

When you sell things on Craigslist you have to take into consideration that the buyer is losing their protection. They are losing the ability to return the item if it doesn't work or is mising pieces. They are losing the ability to return the item if they change their mind. They are not able to pay with a credit card. It's not as conveinient as a store.

For that if it's a super hot item then a small discount is fine but for something that isn't all that big of a deal. I need at least a 50% discount to use Craigslist.

You are asking too much for your items.

I do think the kitchen is overpriced - I would ask no more than $30. However, I think that you are fine on the bouncer. I just looked up completed listings on ebay and they went for above and beyond your asking price, plus shipping. You may just be a bit early in the year to be selling it quickly - when people start having summer parties they will be looking for it. Add something like "don't rent a bounce house, buy one for the same price!" in your listing - that way, if someone is searching for rentals, it will come up.

Worse case, sell it on ebay - they are selling well on there!! Good finds, OP!

Thanks everyone for your opinions! I am going to combine a few people's suggestions and do this:

Keep it as is this week (you never know!)

Next week, lower the asking price on the Kitchen to $40 (then decrease by $5 each week until it sells or I hit the price I paid for it - I do have a 3.5 year old little girl who can actually use it, but she has another little kitchen. I'd rather her play with it than take a loss on it). And, on the bounce house, I'll try it at $150 and then go from there.

I do actually have "Why rent one... etc." on my listing. Also, "great for birthday parties" so we'll see what happens. It is still early.

I also am going to have a garage sale soon, and if I still have them, we'll see what happens at the sale. ;)

From my experience kids items sell for 1/3-1/2 of their retail value when you resale them. Unless it is a HOT item that is sold out in stores and than you can sometimes sell them for more than retail price.

I wouldn't pay over $30 for the kitchen, not sure I would go that much even.

On the bouncer $100 tops. I understand it is new in package but so many things can go wrong with those! If the box was not in good shape then even less.

Do you live in an area that is easy to get to, not out of the way for folks? I live a bit out of the way so I know that I have a harder time selling something then someone 10 miles down the road.

I agree that the prices are a bit high... but I think expecting a lot of responses on the first day is a bit much, I would wait at least a week before I get worried about my listing

Too much for #1. I wouldnt pay more than $25. For #2 was the box retaped or have any damage? Alot of the new stuff that Goodwill gets are returns or damaged/ missing pieces items. I the bounce house box was retaped it might have been returned and has a hole.

Since these are higher priced items, you could list them on Ebay and see what happens. I once sold a Little Tikes Climber Jungle Gym on Ebay. The people drove from a neighboring state to pick it up in their van. We had it for a year and ended up selling it for more than we paid at ToysRUs. :wizard:
