Any rules about topic for DVC boards?

More curious than anything, but I can't figure out why some posts get moved but others don't. For instance, the thread about how DVCers handle vacations with school-age kids was moved, but the multiple ones about grocery stores (favorite, "healthy", closest) were not. (I don't go to the grocery store any more often when staying at a DVC resort than not, but I guess some might.) But how does that explain the thread about off-site restaurants remaining?

While some posts are obviously out of place, I have been stumped several times at threads being moved and am just curious if there is any written "rules" or just the moderators' opinions? And what about instances where the topic might be appropriate several places, but the OP would specifically like the advice or opinion of DVC members (or some other specific category of posters)? I take it that is not allowed?

It isn't just the DVC board, BTW, but most definitely the DISBOARD moderators move more posts than any board I frequent. Not saying that is a bad thing, I just haven't gotten a feel for the reasons.

From what I've observed, there really are no rules. The idea behind moving posts is to try and help ensure that the question gets the best audience.

Sometimes it's a judgement call; sometimes it's clearly off-topic.

Sharper,
Excellent question

, I was wondering the same thing about the threads you mentioned above(vacations-kids school+restraunts).
Hopefully Doc will explain it so we know where to post at.

I don't think I am alone when say that I would like to see a DVC community board.Having DVC as a common bond makes alot of posters feel more comfortable sharing experiences and such with each other, where as they may not feel the same way posting on the community board.Just a thought.

In general, if it's about a DVC resort or DVC program, it's on topic for this board. As FirefighterMickey mentioned, posts are usually moved to a location to try and help ensure that the question gets the best audience.

A question about taking children out of school for vacations is not a DVC topic, just as questions about homeschooling are not...and both have been moved from this board in the past. The restaurant thread has also been moved, as it is not on-topic for this board.

We do try to allow some leeway and, while a discussion about grocery stores is not a DVC topic, it is something unique to DVC members, since our resorts are Home-Away-From-Home and many members do use their kitchen to prepare meals.

Questions about weather in January or crowds in June are not DVC topics and will usually be moved to the Theme Parks Board. Admittedly, some threads are difficult to categorize and may be left even though they aren't always directly on topic.

The DIS guidelines specifically ask that posts remain on topic for each Board and those guidelines are used by moderators for direction in these matters.

Currently, the Community Board is the place to discuss non-Disney issues (like taking children out of school for vacation) and our topical boards (Resorts, Restaurants, Transportation, etc.) are the best places for discussion about any of those concerns.

If you have any questions about specific topics, please direct them privately to a moderator.

Thanks!
