Any regrets for doing DVC?

To make you feel better, my mom is an RN (and has been for 30+ years). She works in a hospital setting- ICU/CCU. She has been a DVC member since 1999/2000 (can’t quite remember) and she hasn’t had any difficulty with booking the 11 or 7 months out.

Thanks! That does make me feel better!

Dina, I too am a "retired" teacher switching gears to the medical field! Only I'm doing rad tech and set to graduate in May. (I take it one semester at a time, hoping I don't flunk out, LOL) You are so lucky to find such a program on nights/weekends. My program has really taken over our lives much more than I anticipated and is run like the military, LOL.

I too had some concerns over scheduling vacation, and know that some hospitals won't let you have more than 2 weeks at a time no matter how much you have banked. That made me wonder if DVC would still be worth it, since I'd hoped to take extended trips. Ah the dilemma, now that we'll be making enough to afford the trips (moreso than the teaching salary) we may not get to enjoy it :rotfl:

j/k So far I like this, and being able to leave your work behind you when you're home is such a perk.

My sister and BIL are both nurses and I'll echo what everyone else says - they've always had jobs where they needed to plan vacation FAR IN ADVANCE - for nurses it seems like the short notice stuff is the hardest. Works well with Disney, too, since they both make lots of money for working Christmas, but can easily take a week off mid-January and our family justs moves Christmas for them. You aren't stuck with the "school holiday" calendar like teachers are - if anything, you are encouraged to take your time off at points when Disney is empty and points are cheap!

Ahhh--- you just made my DH and I very happy!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!! Mid or end of January is our absolute favorite time in Disney (and my kids school district "excuses" vacation time)!! That's great---- well, then hopefully we'll be adding on to our points (love those 2 bedroom villas)!!!

Isn't that the truth! I work so hard in the hospital, but it's so nice not to have to come home and spend my entire weekend grading papers, calculating grades and lesson planning!!!

Sorry for hijaking this thread!!!
