I had never heard this before, but today I heard that redheads have a harder time in the heat. If you are a redhead, do you happen to find that true? I am a natural red head and have a terrible time in the heat. We went to WDW last year in June and the heat/humidity was so bad, that it really effected our trip. I would LOVE to go back to WDW, but for us, we can only go in the summer and I just don't know if I can take that heat again. I wish I could go in the months where it isn't as hot, but we are stuck to basic school vacations (I am a teacher) and the times it is cooler are always the busiest times. Any thoughts?

P.S.
Do you sunburn easily too? Oh my goodness, I burn sooo easy - another reason WDW in the summer is hard for us.

Lots of Gingers in our family. Try to stay in the shade as much as possible, drink LOTS of water, use sunscreen, and wear a hat!!!

I'm a redhead and burn within 10-15 minutes if I don't have SPF on. Sunblock has become second nature to me though so very rarely do I not put it on and I'm religious with its application in Disney (or when I'll be outside for any length of time for that matter). The heat is bothersome but not as much as the humidity. I can spend hours in Vegas's 100 degrees without a bit of discomfort but just a couple of hours in a hot and humid environment bothers me a lot. I just make sure to drink lots of water and escape to an air conditioned store/attraction when I feel it really begin to take its toll.

Another redhead! I burn super easily. Even if it's a cloudy day, I get burnt even worse.

I can handle the heat OK except sometimes if I get overheated and there isn't air flow I can pass out.

I am a natural redhead and can't take the heat at all. We have been going in February and next time I am trying December. I couldn't even think of going in the summer because I know I wouldn't make it. I have had some pretty good sunburns in February while at WDW and try to keep out of the sun as much as I can. It also takes me a day or two to acclimate to the temperature change. In February 2013, I got so sick our first day, which was a half day, that I had to bail when we were towards the front of the line for Peter Pan because I knew I wasn't going to make it without getting sick. I had to sit on a bench while my fiance ran and got me a drink. It is pretty bad when I bail from the front of Peter Pan!

Another natural redhead here, and I can't STAND the heat! I burn easily and always have to wear sunblock if I'm going to be out for an extended period if time. I was at Disney last weekend and I don't think I stopped sweating the entire time I was there!

Redhead here. . .well used to be before I got old. :)
Anyway. . .cannot tolerate heat. I even have trouble sleeping if it's above 65 degrees in the room. Don't know what I'm thinking going in August, but hopefully, I'll manage. Planning extended breaks in the afternoon and jumping from air-conditioning to air-conditioning.

As far as sunburn. . .I think I burn just thinking about sitting in the sun. Sunblock is my savior.

I just thought it was me, but apparently I come by all this naturally.

Another natural redhead who can't handle heat. We are planning on going to wdw in Nov or Dec because of that. I get burned easily, I suffer from heat exhaustion when it is too hot outside. Yay Iowa summers :(

Yup, burn super easily ( go from white to red then back to white, no tanning in between). I'm also super sensitive to temperature, especially heat. I get hot and my face is bright red for hours after. We went late October last year and some days were super hot for me.

Yep. Another natural redhead (before it turned white) who can't tolerate heat and humidity. Putting on sunscreen before going outside is second nature to me. But at WDW I also add a hat. And I try to wear something with short sleeves (even if it's an open shirt over a tank top). There is no way I'd last a day there in the summer. Even when we go in late Sept/early Oct we try to take afternoon breaks away from the parks and take advantage of air conditioning whenever possible. And I always have my misting fan and a bottle of water. Always.

Natural ginger here too. I am always the first one hot and the first one cold....just have problems regulating my body temp. About 3 years ago I started changing up my diet and cut out all pop and gluten and it has really made a difference in how much better I tolerate heat. I do drink coffee in the morning but then water the rest of the day. By doing this, my ankles don't swell and I don't get cranky.

I burn in about 3 mins so sunscreen is a must. I now use Kinesys spray (little pricey) but it works awesomely. It is only SPF 30 but I don't burn at all, even in Belize or other Caribbean locations. It is also lower in the toxic chemicals which is why I really like it!

Hello fellow redheads! :wave2:

We are heading down to DW for our fifth, two week August trip in a row. Yes, I hate the sun and the sun hates me. I've gotten used to the heat, but I stay out of the sun's direct rays as much as possible. That's what makes it tolerable for me. I also slather myself from head to toe with sunblock a few times a day (my face, several times). As long as I've got some shade, I'm okay. :beach:

Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen! But seriously I'm a blonde so I do better my poor fiancée though curly red hair super cute (and one day in the way distant future those kids are gonna be heartbreakers strawberry blonde with ringlet curls) but super hard for him not to burn! It's not the red hair it's the paleness that goes with it I think. He carries SPF 50 sunscreen with him in the summer at all times the frog brand (I worked entirely too many hours for a corporate visit this week and my brain is fried so idk what the name is) that is supposed to be sweat and water proof. It's this weird gel stuff but it really works! We live in tn so it isn't quite fl hot here but still he has to have that kind to keep from being burnt all the time

Two of my kids and I are redheads. I prefer heat to cold. But in WDW, I find a hat makes a huge difference.

My 6yo is a redhead. I've never - NEVER! - seen her head get sweaty until we went to WDW this past weekend. And I say that living in southern MS on the Gulf Coast - then again we aren't usually outside for 4-5 hours at a time here at home. If I don't reapply her sunscreen every hour, she cooks like a lobster. Still, I think she handled the heat better than I did and I'm not a redhead, or maybe that was just her excitement ;)

I was a redhead, now gray. I live in Texas so its just hot here all the time. I always were a hat and have started wearing long sleeve vented shirts like fishing shirts. I always wear moisture wicking clothing so I stay cooler. Sunscreen is as natural to me as brushing my teeth. And I always have an icey drink with me.

Redhead here

The only thing that gets me through our summer trips (other than water and sunscreen and all that) is my Frogg Togg cooling pad around my neck.

I cut one in half and I wear it constantly when I am touring, pouring water on it often it keep it wet, wearing it like a scarf and sticking down my tee. It is seriously my best friend on our August trips, I couldn't go at that time without one. And as soon as I take it off, I am unbearably hot.

Love you Frogg Toggs! :love::love::love:

All three of my kiddos are redheads. I never thought about it being related to their hair color before, but they all do get very hot. They sunburn very easily. They are always warm when they sleep so they have fans above their beds. My son sweats like crazy. Maybe redheads do have more trouble in the heat, I don't know. It's interesting.

I'm a redhead, and also burn at the first sign of sun. But I don't think I'm more susceptible to the heat than anyone else (aside from burning).

That said, sometimes I feel like my skin can't "breathe" because of all the sunscreen I always have on.

learning who my fellow redheads are! I was a natural redhead in my youth - now, I like to say, my hair color is "enhanced"! While I must use sunscreen outdoors, I am the cold-natured one in the family. I don't find the Florida heat enjoyable, but I am usually fine. One of my daughters is also a redhead and she has always been very bothered by heat. She had her wedding in October so she wouldn't get sweaty for pictures! I always thought she took after her dad, but maybe it comes with the red hair. (That means I'm the one who is not typical. :confused3) Pony tails, hats, cold water and afternoon breaks have been helpful to her.
