We went on 10-7-07 and had a wonderful meal! We had an early ADR at 5:30 and were seated immediately at a window. Our server was Natalie and she was top-notch throughout the whole meal. DH started with the calamari for an appy and I had the special, fried oysters and popcorn shrimp. DH said the calamari was exactly like he had in Italy, and it was a huge serving. Beware if you're expecting calamari like at Red Lobster- you get some of the squid rings, but you also get a LOT of little whole squid! I wish I knew how to post a picture! It was very dsiconcerting to me to keep looking at what appeared to be tiny whole octopus in all their deep fried glory--I could not stop giggling at them! DD6 had the kid's chicken noodle soup and deemed it very good. The bread they bring is very good, but crusty, which means when you are cutting yourself a piece, you make a big mess with crumbs all over the table! Nothing to fear, Natalie had a crumb scraper to clean the table.
For entrees we both had surf and turf. I will be a rebel here, and say I don't know what the big deal about lobster is. This was the first I'd tried that was not in a dip, soup, or stuffing. It was good, but I still like scallops better; I should have asked for the substitution, b/c they will do that. Our steaks were cooked perfectly med.well, but DH did not care for the sauce on them at all. His steak actually tasted a little gamey, so Natalie brought him out another one (with sides, too!) without a second thought. DD got the kid's filet and hers tasted fine; I think DH would have just liked his plain. The gratin potatoes are to die for here! You also get asparagus, which was very good. DD's mashed potatoes were quite yummy and she actually ate more of these than the steak.
For dessert I had the Almond Cheesecake, which was the best cheesecake I have ever had anywhere, any flavor. The cherries really complement this very well. DH had the chocolate gateau which is much like the chocolate wave at Coral Reef. He loved this. I had ordered DD a Cinderella's slipper for dessert and she loved it! It is a white chocolate 3 inch slipper filled with whipped cream and topped with raspberries. She ate almost the whole thing and half of the chocolate mousse that comes with it, and still wanted to order her s'mores (since we were on
DDP, she had a dessert coming to her). There were four good sized graham cracker sandwiches with real toasted marshmallows (which I love!) and hershey squares. She only managed one of these.
When we finally rolled out of there, it was dark, and the bay was so pretty with the castle glowing in the distance. This was a wonderful meal with great service, the restaurant was not too loud or crowded and we would definitely go back again! Bill without DDP would have been $230.
Enjoy your meal here!!
